A wealthy Bernie

* In 2014, Sanders gave 4 percent of his income to nonprofits (seems kind of low for someone who wants to spread the wealth)
* Sanders formed his own “dark money” group at the same time he railed against 501(c)4s, which are not required to publicly disclose financial information
* The senator owns three homes, including a retreat in the Lake Champlain islands (dachas ?)
* "like many Vermonters he and Jane have a camp on Lake Champlain.”

It’s because the folks calling him a hypocrite either don’t understand what social democracy/democratic socialism means, or they want to promote misunderstandings about it in order to thwart the intentions of his supporters. They heard ‘socialism’, and remembered hearing once that it meant the government takes all your stuff and you have nothing, and decided that if Sanders has property and is a social democrat, he’s being somehow inconsistent. The problem with this sort of thing is that’s not what Sanders is saying when he promotes democratic socialism/social democracy in policy terms. Also, this is a misconception his political opponents are keen to promote, given that the facts are otherwise not on their side. The policies Sanders does promote are actually wildly popular among American voters:Getting money (and corruption) out of politics enjoys significant support[1][2].Publicly-funded health care does too (~64% favor this[3] )Publicly-funded higher education(~60% [4] )Keeping our infrastructure maintained(72% [5])Taxing the very wealthy at higher rates than we do today (~61% think they pay too little [6] )On top of all these things, Bernie Sanders is by far the most popular politician in America and this is a damned problem for the folks who don’t want to see his legislative agenda advanced. This is why they’re devoting their efforts to smear him, to proclaim him somehow corrupt or on the take- because if they argue policy against him, they lose.So that’s why they’re telling you it’s unreasonable for a US Senator to have multiple homes (even though every senator keeps a home in DC). The reality is that he and is wife inherited a home in Maine (where they don’t live), and recently sold it to buy one in Vermont, where he lives.

Why is Bernie Sanders called a hypocrite for owning three homes?
Social democracy doesn’t mean you can’t have money or wealth, and there’s nothing nefarious about having a family cabin on the lake at his age and the thought that social democrats can’t be social democrats and have nice things is a specious double-standard.Knowing they’ll lose if they argue on policy, they’ve decided to shoot at the messenger and hope to avoid the whole conversation.

At the time Sanders ran for president, he was the 19th poorest member of the Senate- 80 others had more (in many cases LOTS more) money than Sanders. So he lost the race, probably won't run again and has more money now? Who cares? Why are we even talking about Bernie Sanders' money?Oh, that's right. He's one of those dirty (shh, say it quietly) liberals.
