The Concept of God

No, I did not say it's logical. I said it's not as preposterous. I said that it's at least scientifically feasible, unlike God, because holographic simulations actually exist.HughFreakingDillon said:
so the concept of the existence of god is illogical to you, but the idea we are living in a holographic simulation is perfectly logical.PJ_Soul said:And I choose logic, and therefore assert that the concept of the existence of God is ludicrous. I can be 100% secure and confident in that assertion. But you seem to have a problem with that, even though you make the exact same claim about your ideas.
i cannot really fathom how you don't see how utterly contradictory those statements are.

That's alright Brian. I can see how you might have thought that. Some people are just certain for sure that there is no God. To that, I suggested reading 2nd Thessalonians chapter 2.brianlux said:RYME said:
No Brian there is no rapture.brianlux said:What RYME is referring to I'm pretty sure is The Rapture (there is actually no reference to the word "rapture" in the Bible- I'm not sure where that term comes from). My understanding is that many chuches no longer teach about a "Rapture". In fact, according to the article linked below, the concept was invented by a man named John Darby. And according to this article:the Rapture has not been taught in Christian churches for 90% of church history.I guess anything is possible and I would not go so far as to personally insult anyone who believes in it, but I would say that this kind of teaching/thinking probably does more harm than good in the long run. According to Christianity Today, only 1/3 of pastors believe Christians will be raptured.
The word rapture isn't in the Bible.
The Rapture Theory started around 1830 because of a woman name that Margaret McDonald.Oops, sorry for the mistaken assumption, RYME!If not the Rapture, what were you referring to if I might ask?

Quoting the Bible when trying to tell an Atheist he or she is sinful and wicked (and that is what you're calling me with that quote) is pretty much the most pointless method for discussion possible.

I think it does though....many Christians think it is ludicrous to believe in Allah, so if you think that is ludicrous then they should understand why we think believing in a christian god is ludicrous.PJ_Soul said:

I see PJ Soul's point though. My wife, who is catholic, had a hard time when we first started dating. she can understand people believing in different gods (even if they are the "wrong one"), but she was baffled that I "didn't believe in anything" and therefore had no right to be offended by anything in the church.Gern Blansten said:

Yeah, as HFD said, thinking others believe in the wrong god isn't the same as not believing in any god. Those are still very different points of view. What they think is ludicrous is completely different from what a non-believer thinks is ludicrous, like on the basic philosophical and psychological level.Gern Blansten said:

Also, just FYI, Allah and the Christian God are the same God. If a Christian doesn't acknowledge that, then they really don't know wtf is even going on.

Yes, you're definitely dead... I have no clue, however, if there is an afterlife or not. Probably not. I seriously doubt it. I don't think so at all. But who knows? Perhaps there is some kind of natural process that does allow for it. Energy never dies after all... for all we know, consciousness is contained in energy somehow. No one has really been able to define consciousness, technically, so we don't know. :i_dunno: So yeah, I am looking forward to either finding out what happens, if anything, because I'm sure that interesting as hell, har har har ... And if it's nothing, I won't know the difference anyhow so it doesn't matter.Degeneratefk said:

What I feel 100% sure of is that IF (and that is an infinity minus 1 if) the after life is a thing, it is not based on some sick and twisted system of meritocracy, as religious folks would have you believe. What a bunch of crazy nonsense that is.
