The word "forthcoming" doesn't mean "upcoming".
I think they recorded some demos in the last months but I don't think the new record, unfortunately, is "coming soon". Maybe PJ will release the new album in 2019 (or 2020) but, again, don't think the new record is done. Maybe I'm wrong (hope so).

I think they wrote some stuff together and recorded one song with the intent to finish the album after the 2018 tour. We will see!

As stated...it’s from the ‘forthcoming’ album. I can’t imagine there is too much more to record, or no plans to anyway, because they must be pretty certain it’s going to be on there. If there were any more writing sessions with the intentions to record more tracks then there’d be no guarantee it would end up on there.

My guess is late 2018 at the absolute earliest.

I agree. I'm still thinking spring 2019 though would be a safer bet.

Well, maybe Eddie Vedder will make another soundtrack or something.  I would be good with that.

I thought it was weird they said it was from "the forthcoming album".   Instead of the usual here's the album announcement and here's the first single.    Make's it sound like they wanted to put out a song, but weren't as close to putting out the album as we hoped?

    This is exactly my thought.

This album could be one of those releases where there is no media, hype or release date. Just ‘here it is’ for immediate stream or download. Then a physical release and vinyl a few weeks later.

We need to get a microphone in front of Mike and ask him.

Ed has produced less music the last 5 years than all the other members. I'm not holding my breath

Zero chance of this. This band is ALL about Merch and selling maximum stuff.  Multiple merch trailers, pop up shops, etc. They’re about as far from “let’s fly under the radar” as you can get.  MLB stadiums isn’t a nonchalant tour either.
I'm like an opening band for your mom.

As long as the Cubs are predicted to do good, I don't think Eddie will want to take that gamble of being on the road during the playoffs in October and November.
I don't think he has to worry this year.

Hey, now, come on guys...they will be playing ball in October.

They wanted Cant Deny Me to be released on the same day as the student walkouts.

“But after 28 years together, the band doesn't plan to slow down its heavy touring schedule.”

Heavy?? Ha! 15 Europe dates and touring only 4 US cities does not a heavy touring schedule make - or at least, it didn’t use to be.

They're basically the Stones at this point, except the Stones have released an album more recently, play live more often, and have more vault releases
