Comparing members of Congress, one set elected every two years and the other every six, since the founding of the republic, with an unelected dictator who rules by brutal oppression and fear and calling them the same, or trying to, is not “same BS,” it’s falling really far down the worm hole. Even further if you defend the analogy.polaris_x said:

Those are some North Korean type numbers.
Fuck, even that orange turd in the states almost got 50%.
Sorry polaris, you are in way too deep if you can believe those results are in any way legitimate.

The question then is: What if the narrative you've believed all along on Assad was false? Why would a secular leader of a country where people who hate each other elsewhere live in harmony want to live in a place where a brutal dictator operates? The villification of Assad simply does not add up - how does a guy go from wanting to be an eye doctor studying in London to going home and wanting to oppress all his people!??my2hands said:
That pretty much sums it up for me...JimmyV said:The difference between 2002 and 2018 is that no one then was claiming Saddam Hussein was a beloved figure in Iraq who drove his own car around Baghdad. We all knew what he was, even if we disagreed about what should or shouldn't be done militarily. I was against invading Iraq then and I'm against attacking Syria now. Not wanting to bomb Syria isn't what makes someone an apologist for Assad.
Nobody had seen me advocate for missile strikes... not really sure what should be done... but I tend to be strongly against military action
My issue is the painting of Assad as some kind of righteous leader who had done nothing wrong over the past 7 years... same with Putin, The Peacemaker ... totally ridiculous
You just have to honeslty ask yourselves that question ... because there is plenty of evidence to disprove that narrative ... but it appears you guys just don't want to hear it ... not sure why ...dignin said:

let's face it ... unlike Kheik Shaykoun ... there was actually no chemical attack to go along with the accusation ... that's why the narrative has changed to ... "Assad is still a dick even if he didn't gas his people" ...
it's pretty obvious now that there was no chemical attack in douma ... no deaths ...09/15/1998 & 09/16/1998, Mansfield, MA; 08/29/00 08/30/00, Mansfield, MA; 07/02/03, 07/03/03, Mansfield, MA; 09/28/04, 09/29/04, Boston, MA; 09/22/05, Halifax, NS; 05/24/06, 05/25/06, Boston, MA; 07/22/06, 07/23/06, Gorge, WA; 06/27/2008, Hartford; 06/28/08, 06/30/08, Mansfield; 08/18/2009, O2, London, UK; 10/30/09, 10/31/09, Philadelphia, PA; 05/15/10, Hartford, CT; 05/17/10, Boston, MA; 05/20/10, 05/21/10, NY, NY; 06/22/10, Dublin, IRE; 06/23/10, Northern Ireland; 09/03/11, 09/04/11, Alpine Valley, WI; 09/11/11, 09/12/11, Toronto, Ont; 09/14/11, Ottawa, Ont; 09/15/11, Hamilton, Ont; 07/02/2012, Prague, Czech Republic; 07/04/2012 & 07/05/2012, Berlin, Germany; 07/07/2012, Stockholm, Sweden; 09/30/2012, Missoula, MT; 07/16/2013, London, Ont; 07/19/2013, Chicago, IL; 10/15/2013 & 10/16/2013, Worcester, MA; 10/21/2013 & 10/22/2013, Philadelphia, PA; 10/25/2013, Hartford, CT; 11/29/2013, Portland, OR; 11/30/2013, Spokane, WA; 12/04/2013, Vancouver, BC; 12/06/2013, Seattle, WA; 10/03/2014, St. Louis. Here's that flourishing democracy you were talking about.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/04/bashar-al-assad-winds-reelection-in-landslide-victory
Assad captures another seven-year term after winning almost 90% of the vote, with polling only held in government-held areas.
Assad's victory was always a foregone conclusion, despite the presence of other candidates on the ballot for the first time in decades. Voting was held only in government-controlled areas, excluding huge tracks of northern and eastern Syria that are in rebel hands. The opposition and its western allies, including the United States, have denounced the election as a farce.
The win boosts Assad's support base, and provides further evidence that he has no intention of relinquishing power.
For the first time in decades, there were multiple candidates on the ballot. In previous presidential elections, Assad and before him his father, Hafez Assad, were elected in single candidate referendums in which voters cast yes-no ballots.
The government has sought to present this vote as a democratic solution to Syria's three-year conflict, although a win for Assad is certain to prolong the war. Much of northern and eastern Syria is in rebel hands, and those in the armed opposition show no signs of relenting in their fight to oust Assad.
The war, which activists say has killed more than 160,000 people, has left the international community deeply divided, with the US and its allies backing the revolt against Assad, who enjoys the support of Russia and Iran.
That division persisted in perceptions of Tuesday's vote.
In Beirut, US secretary of state John Kerry sharply criticized the Syrian election, calling it "a great big zero." He said it can't be considered fair "because you can't have an election where millions of your people don't even have an ability to vote."

There are some reports from the Russian foreign ministry that the inspectors have entered Douma and are at the site of the attack this morning. Not sure if that is accurate based on the sources. Either way, there'll be little to no evidence left if chlorine gas was used. It's a hopeless situation...0

From a Republican member of the senate foreign relations committee in yesterday’s NYT. But it surely can be explained away as western war mongering profiteering, I’m sure.
