Ticket prices

Today, I found out that tickets for the shows I'm interested in for 2018 are $122.50/ticket for Chicago... and $123.50 for Boston.  Let's take a walk down memory lane......

"Pearl Jam wanted to charge no more than $18.50 for tickets in '94, with service fees of no more than $1.80. Ticketmaster balked, saying that it needed at least $2 in fees simply to cover its own costs." - courtesy Ultimateclassicrock.com

    It’s been a long time. Supply and demand, matched with inflation. $130 is not bad in ticket world for a good show!

    It's not 1994 anymore. People grow and priorities change. I'm not overly concerned about what they said or did in the past.

    Unfortunately it's not 2016 anymore, either. From $188 to $247 in just two years...that's a lot.

    I’m guessing the ticket issue caused this. Scalpers pick them up and get huge profits. Higher face value, the less attractive to people who don’t want them

    Yeah - it's steep for me, so imagine asking my friend who was excited to go (and doesn't make a ton of $$), and letting him know that they're $120 a piece for someone that isn't as into the band. I was expecting $200, but this is tough for sure. That being said, they're my favorite band. I just couldn't afford a third show at this rate though if it were added.

    94 long time ago.... boy they were naiive back then....but you are so right concert tickets,even for small "unknown" bands, are through the roof, but fuck it we only live ones and fingers crossed for Boston tix. we are so going to the states this year .... see u all

    Inflation: $20 in 1994 is the equivalent of $33 dollars in 2017. So let’s not blame this all on inflation.

    My bet is on this possible scenario:
    1. Band wants more than usual allotment of fan club seating in the venues.
    2. Ticket companies have less ways to cash in on what they consider "fair market" pricing or secondary market revenue.
    3. Band and ticket company have to compromise on a deal where prices are higher than what we expect, but at least band secures more seats for fans. And in turn, less fans paying over face on secondary market.

    This year I have paid $293 for a pair of Taylor Swift (2nd level of a stadium), $236 for a pair of Foo Fighters Pit tickets (Amphitheatre), and $410 for a pair of floor tickets to Justin Timberlake (arena). So the ticket prices listed are on par with these other major acts touring this year. 

    And I know....one of those acts are not like the others. Guess who was my choice versus my wife's picks....

    What costs 6x as much as it did in 1994?  Not only that, but where's the concern for the young fans wanting to see their favorite band at a reasonable price?  Those self-righteous quotes from 20+ years ago are quite comical today...

    The concert and music industry has changed immensely since 1994.  Gone are the days of million dollar record advances and sales.  Bands make their money on touring now, period.  It wasn’t always like that, but now it is.  

    If you think $125 per ticket WITH FEES is bad for a top-tier rock band’s best ticket then you need to look at other acts and what they charge for much worse.  For 2018, these prices are not only fair for their stature, but arguably a “deal” considering they are the best seats in the house.

    every ticket in the places are the same prices.  find an act doing that outside of Phish.  The Misfits are charging 250 for GA tickets,
    $120 a ticket WITH fees isn't outrageous at all.

    petition the people charging $40 venue fees PER TICKET.  it's hardly only the bands doing.

    we get it you want tickets to be $50 each.  things change.

    if you feel the price is too high vote with your wallet.

    More people in the crew. Venue charges more, ticket distributors need to be paid. It’s a bigger operation. More people that need to be paid

    This is the nature of the many beasts here.  There are so many different forces at play.  But this much is certain, there are fans simply being priced out of the equation here in my estimation.  
    His eminence has yet to show.

    This. All major acts are pretty expensive for live shows. It’s just the way it is now.

    Hopefully these prices will deter folks from entering every show lottery and we all get what we TRULY want. That being said, it was nice the last few tours that their prices were actually BELOW what other top tier acts were charging. The fact now that they are on average I guess is OK. Good luck to all.

    I am shocked at these ticket prices. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford it but what happened to being reasonable enough every fan could attend? I'm disappointed in this. I know, I know, if I don't like it I can not go so you others have a better chance. But PJ taught me to stand for something or fall for anything and I can not keep my mouth shut about this. And don't give me this "well, it's for charity". These band members don't need to jack prices up to be able to afford to donate. And if fans are that fortunate they can donate on their own, not through inflated ticket prices. I used to brag about how PJ treats their fans...
