If someone doesn't have to man the register and take orders anymore or nearly as much, then they don't need as much staff in any case. So whether they switch back and forth or just man the register or whatever, people are going to lose jobs. Less required manpower = fewer workers.HughFreakingDillon said:

The full bonus of $2,000 only went to those employees with 20+ years of service. Imagine working at WalMart for 20+ years as a greeter, cashier or sales associate. Of their thousands of employees in these categories, I'm willing to bet that not many have 20+ years of continuous service. The other thing is, once these folks use the bonus to pay down their debt or a one time splurge, the effect on the long run economy will be marginal at best. Speaking of putting cashiers out of jobs...
Yesterday, after Amazon Go's debut, Jeff Bezos gained $2.8 billion. Amazon Go is tehcnology that pretty much makes cashiers obsolete. You log into the app, go into the store, pick up your items and leave.
So, one guy in one day made more than probably all cashiers in the US combined in a whole year.. for introducing software that takes their jobs away.
This is what class warfare looks like.

Class warfare? This is what progress looks like, and people are naive if they think we have a moral obligation to disallow progress. Automation, machine learning, and AI are here to stay and getting stronger, and people would be well-served to acknowledge this reality and pivot to industries which support it, rather than denying this reality and complaining. Yesterday, after Amazon Go's debut, Jeff Bezos gained $2.8 billion. Amazon Go is tehcnology that pretty much makes cashiers obsolete. You log into the app, go into the store, pick up your items and leave.
So, one guy in one day made more than probably all cashiers in the US combined in a whole year.. for introducing software that takes their jobs away.
