FYI: Ladies Beware in Chicago

Just to give all you out of towners a heads up, there have been several assaults and sexual assaults on women in the Wrigleyville, Lakeview, Lincoln Park area the last week or two. That is where the Vic and Wrigley Field are located. Also, a lot of the most popular bars are in that area of town. If you are a female, then make sure you take a cab late at night or at the very least walk in a group.
EDIT: On a more gender neutral fact, it is also suppose to be upper 90's (98, I think) on Thursday. Be careful if you will be sitting around the vic all day. Bring lots of water and sunscree.
Sorry to be a downer. I am sure everyone will be fine, just be careful. I want everyone to leave Chicago loving it as much as I do

if you are a woman and make a habit of wandering around big cities late at night alone while drunk, you're a fucking idiot.0 -
This part of Chicago is historically VERY safe. This stuff rarely happens around there. The bars are right around the residential district. People might only be walking a block or two.
On a side note, it is not that cool to blame victims that they caused it. Why should anyone not be allowed to walk around at night.0 -

That is my point. That enviornment is normally very safe. People walk around there all the time without incident. This appears to be one guy being a serial raper. These females are living their life as they normally would. I don;t think walking home is the same as trying to provoke someone with a stereotype, but that is just me.0 -

this is right.
this neighborhood is VERY safe, but they do have a bad guy running around right now.
just stay in a group. if you're drinking...before you get there put 911 in your cell phone just to be safe.
most importantly, be with friends who look out for each other. if someone wanders away...you want people you know looking for you......and that goes for chicago or some small town in whatever state.0 -

then maybe you should be more careful about how much you drink.0 -

Lawguy, thanks for the heads-up"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." ~ MLK, 19630 -

it's not their fault, but that doesnt mean it's not a dumb idea.0 -

Lawguy, thanks for the heads-up
i read the article. it's "early this morning".... journalistic code for after the bars closed.0 -

If that is how we are looking at it, then what isn't a dumb idea? Someone getting attacked in Lakeview happens to maybe .001% of the people that walk home. There is only so much you can do without living your life in a bubble. That being said, I always walk a girl home or at least make sure she gets into a cab. I do know there are a lot of a**holes out there. I would not go so far as to call it a dumb idea to walk home. It IS a dumb idea to walk home now that you know there is someone out there attacking people in Lakeview. THAT IS DUMB.0 -

no there isn't. i read the article. 2 were sexual assaults, 1 was just an attack. by all accounts they were unrelated. it is still the big city and just becos it's gentrified doesn't mean you should toss your common sense out the window.
oh fuck it, who am i kidding. you're all right.
i would like to publicly apologize for being a horrible sexist pig and for blaming victims of rape for their plight. i strongly encourage all young women to walk alone as much as they want after drinking as much as they can stomach. do not worry. if someone attacks you, it is not your fault and there was absolutely nothing you could have done to prevent it.
enjoy chicago.0 -

I am more offended as a guy that you think there are so many of us out there assaulting women. Again, I prefer women to always have an escort or take a cab. But walking a few blocks at night is not such a horrible thing. Is it ok for a guy to walk home drunk? An armed robber could always come up behind you!!!!!!0 -
im gonna have to side with conor on this one.
its simple really. use common sense. now is that really asking so much?!Seems that needlessly it's getting harder
To find an approach and a way to live
Are we getting something out of this
