I'm seeing it again today. I've heard so many people say they liked it better the second time. I love Star Wars and I really do want to love this movie. I'm skeptical a second viewing is going to change my mind on the storytelling problems and how it fails to really sync up with the movie that came before it. But...we'll see.

That hyper-speed kamikaze into the fleet... my immediate thought was why wasn't that done yet, and not done at all over the last 5 episodes? You would think the rebels would have been able to weaponize the hyperspace drive already and used it. I thought it was very 'lazy'. I also thought Leia should have pulled a Harry Stamper and jumped in for the kamikaze and gone out like that. I liked the Laura Dern character and she would have/could have filled the Leia void for the films to come (without the pack a day and decades of drug use screen presence).
Other spots that were lazy were when Finn and that girl were in a hangar full of storm troopers, officers, executioners, etc. Everyone armored but them. Everyone was obliterated, but they were relatively "Unbroken". Come on. Of course, the popular one was the Leia/force floating back thing... how unnecessary and laughingly hokey.
I also thought the clean killing of Snoke was a bit lazy/easy. Killed with a light sabre at his side that he somehow cannot sense, being all powerful? I also dont understand how Rae is trained. She got 3 lessons (2 I think I recall), and seemed to fail them.
Don't like how much General Hux is portrayed like a weak boob and used only for comedy relief. He is the commander of the First Order Fleet and he has been pretty much de-pantsed in this movie, only to be laughed at.
Im not one to pick apart Star Wars movies for errors and such. I actually like(d) the Prequels for what they are and felt people were way too harsh on them and piled on with a bit of mob mentality.
This movie really didn't seem to go anywhere. Characters really didn't develop much. The status of the First Order and Rebellion is relatively unchanged. IMO, this may have been the worst of the 9 Star Wars films.
I do love the little cameos by aliens. They add a lot of flavor and depth into the worlds.0 -

The worst instance is in TFA, when they suck the flames of a star across the interplanetary vacuum into the core of the Starkiller Base. That's a hell of a whopper there.

A friend of mine had a theory.
So Snoke was killed by getting cut in half, but Darth Maul was also cut in half and was able to use the dark side to sustain himself until he was found and then saved. That being said, the current working title for Episode IX is "Black Diamond", and Snoke wears a black diamond ring on his hand. So is it possible that he returns like Darth Maul did and plays a continued role in the next episode and we still get some more backstory on him?

With that said, I suspect Snoke is still alive and will come back with a vengeance in IX. Just seemed too powerful to just die by basically slipping on a banana peel. He will probably be needed to conclude Kylo's story arc, as well as continue the lineage of Sith/Empire/New Order antagonist thing.0 -

It's time to let the past die.
I think that's a great theme for the point in time, both inside the Star Wars universe and in ours as fans.Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -

F Me In The Brain said:I am already on record as liking it but the Princess floating around and then pulling herself back in was, hands down, the worst moment of the 'new' movies. I laughed out loud, while others clapped, in the theater.
Just saw it today, and besides the fact we keep seeing new Force abilities that weren't even hinted at before (freezing blaster shots and people, now surviving the vacuum of space), why wasn't everyone sucked out of the cruiser when Leia pulled herself back in? Did she use the Force off-screen to seal the bridge (didn't seem like she came in through an airlock). I don't like to nitpick fantasy movies, but it was depressurization of the bridge that sucked her so far out into space, but when she comes back, the door just opens?
I did enjoy the movie, but I agree with others that maybe Disney needs to slow things down a bit to plot these out a bit better (plus the Star Wars ennui I'm starting to feel from all the cross-promotion). I get they want to make back their investment, but they shouldn't be playing this for a short-term return, in my opinion. At least they look pretty, lol.
To be honest, I'm actually starting to wish Lucas hadn't sold the franchise, I'm curious what his vision for this trilogy was (which he apparently gave to Disney in the sale). I really hope IX stops worrying about callbacks to the original trilogy (felt like most of Snoke's lines were him parroting the Emperor). At this point I half expect IX to be Revenge Of The Porgs, sadly, lol.
