Listening to the Mad Season/Temple of the Dog Benaroya show on vinyl right now. Easily one of the best nights of my life. That show was epic in every conceivable way.

  • I hear you. Take your time with it. Pretty much everything he touched has something to offer. I'm even digging Scream these days heh heh.

Higher Truth is really on another level though.

Still not sure I'm there. I'll listen to some of it, then go into a funk. I still swing wildly back and forth between feeling soul-crushingly sorry for Chris and being angry af at him. There's no manual for this.

I don't want to get in too deep about this right now but I would say in this case anger isn't really helpful. Obviously if you're a family member or had a personal relationship with him I can't speak to that, but I can say with some confidence that Chris gave everything he had and absolutely did not chicken out or any other similar type of interpretation. I don't think it was a coincidence the Temple tour came so shortly before he passed.

  • It's awful. I think it can be very tough to exist in the world with a very loving and generous spirit that's coupled with anger against all the bullshit that's around us everywhere.

I can listen to Chris again now. It helps that there are quite a few of his songs on my phone and I only listen to it on 'random', so he'll pop up without warning.

It's still tough to watch any of his videos or live clips though. Seeing him makes it a lot harder.

  • My feeling is the happiness Chris exuded at times during the last few years is mostly genuine. Doesn't lessen the grief but maybe could soften it a bit.

I'm shattered he is no longer with us. But i'm so eternally grateful for the gift he gave to us all. I'm also glad i made the most of every show i saw him at - i didn't take one second for granted.

Was lucky enough to be at this performance. Just wow huh. Merry Xmas guys :)

  • i put on spotify the other day and it shuffled to I Am the Highway, which just so happens to be the song I use to illustrate how i feel about my depression. I hadn't listened to his voice since June and I couldn't do it. a day later after listening to Nirvana unplugged i was ready to listen to some Soundgarden. My favorite album is Down on the Upside and when Pretty Noose came on I was done. It's all compounded by the fact that one of my friends tried to commit suicide 2 weeks ago and I'm afraid she's going to try again. I know exactly how they both feel/felt because I have depression. Fell on Black Days is the perfect way to describe it and now I even call those days where I'm really depressed a black day. I know everyone's depression is different but after reading Chris's lyrics I feel like we shared the same feelings, like we were put on this Earth to show others light but not keep any light for ourselves. "I'm a search light soul they say, but I can't see it in the night". I miss him so much :frowning:

All I can say as someone who understands something about darkness (and hopefully light as well!) is don't give up :)

If you can eventually try and listen to songs like Dusty, Sunshower and the whole Higher Truth album and remember those songs are just as crucial as the dark ones. Xo

I am totally with you here. I am the highway is already going to be my funeral song. C.C speaks my language. I KNOW what he is saying and i KNOW those exact feelings you and he explain. Keep listening because there is healing as well in there but i had a month solid of only listening to cornell and i cried everyday. I still cry when i listen but its pain coming out in a way.  Keep going my friend there are many who understand. Big love

  • I just watched Audio Slave: Live in Cuba tonight.  A really fun watch.  Not the best visuals, they are a bit clunky, but the Audio is really well done.  They played AudioSlave, SoundGarden & Rage songs at that show.  Amazing.  Loved the instrumental version of Bulls on Parade.  He looks so young and vital in that movie.  Makes me sad of what we lost.  I saw Chris Solo and in SoundGarden, but I never did see Temple of the Dog or Audio Slave Live.  A couple huge holes in my concert list.  Still hurts to think about.  I'll always miss him.
    So sorry.
There's no need to say goodbye
