Pixar's latest.  Pretty solid, wasn't the best Pixar movie but definitely not the worst, solid B+

I expected better. I could watch Aubrey Plaza read the phone book, though.

I laughed at a lot of the parts in that movie, which is hardly surprising to me (nor you, I am sure)...and agree about Ms Plaza.  Parks & Recs all growed up!

I guess since Adam DeVine was involved, I was expecting reckless Workaholics hilarity, but the saccharinated comedy was more along the lines of Modern Family.

Yeah, they had to dial it back too much but I still liked it.
    I loath Modern Family!

You loathe Modern Family. So perhaps you are loath to watch it. :glasses:

For me, it's hit or miss, with more misses than hits. But the hits are such that they outshine the misses (if that makes any sense).

I rewatched the Ghostbusters reboot last night. I think they were too timid with it. They basically stuck to the same old formula, which had already been diluted by the sequel to the original. It's as though they thought that casting women as the titular characters would be revolutionary on its own. And perhaps that has some merit from a sociopolitical perspective, but from an artistic perspective, they did nothing else to give this film legs to carry a new franchise. And to that earlier point, they may have cast all-female leads, but they kept them on such a tight leash that their collective talent was for the most part squandered. How else do you explain four of the funniest women on this planet having scenes stolen from them by Chris Hemsworth?

I LOVE Modern Family, but still disliked this movie enough to turn it off less than halfway through.

never watched it the whole way through.  I'm not a huge Will Ferrel fan.  It was good.  I wouldn't put it up there as one of my favorite christmas movies though.
