Wtf is a flexi-single?? I've never even heard of that! Is it what it sounds like? I.e. a bendy 45?

I am so glad they put out a new album. It has made me remember to listen to their older stuff too. Boxer side 1 is incredible. High violet is a beast. Haven't even gotten into the new album too much because I'm revisiting the older stuff. So good.

I'm loving the new album so much!  I love the fact that they have evolved their sound and changed things up quite a bit, with the electronic beats, guitar solos, and a song (Turtleneck) that is almost verging on punk rock!  And another song (Sleep Well Beast) that is so abstract it almost sounds like it could be a Radiohead song.  All these things aren't particularly characteristic of their previous records.

But while evolving quite a bit, they have still managed to make the album sound unmistakably like The National, containing all the usual elements that make their music so great, such as the colourful drumming, beautiful piano parts, the mysterious but still relate-able lyrics, and of course Matt's great voice.

They've done well to change things up quite a bit, but still appeal to people who already love their music.  A great record!

Yeah, they used to at least cut them in a circle, now they don't even bother. They sound like crap and it's disturbing that there's a resurgence. If the music is that throwaway then don't release it.

The National put on an INCREDIBLE show in Detroit last night.
We heard ALMOST all of the new album,
only songs they didn't play were I'll Still Destroy You & Sleep Well Beast!!
Excellent setlist and they closed the show with an acoustic version of Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks...
    one of my favorite closers!!

My brother just scored free tickets to a small show they are doing this week at House of Vans in Chicago. I'll be on a flight home from a work trip that night so can't make it... looks like I'll be shelling out $200 for a ticket at one of their upcoming shows in December.

I'm gonna try to hit that Vans show. I got a "ticket" as well.

Seeing as they are pulling out rarities, I may have to hit both Dec shows. I want a Karen. Haven't seen that song in 11 years.

Also, I hope members of PJ and NTL hook up at those SA Lolla shows.

Going to both National shows this weekend in Vancouver. Been avoiding setlists as much as possible, however I do know they played Boxer in full in Belgium. If they do that here, it would be second to PJ playing any of their first five albums in full for me!
