The National put on an INCREDIBLE show in Detroit last night.
We heard ALMOST all of the new album,
only songs they didn't play were I'll Still Destroy You & Sleep Well Beast!!
Excellent setlist and they closed the show with an acoustic version of Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks...
    one of my favorite closers!!

Fun roadtrip and a GREAT time hanging out in Detroit!!

My brother just scored free tickets to a small show they are doing this week at House of Vans in Chicago. I'll be on a flight home from a work trip that night so can't make it... looks like I'll be shelling out $200 for a ticket at one of their upcoming shows in December.

I'm gonna try to hit that Vans show. I got a "ticket" as well.

Seeing as they are pulling out rarities, I may have to hit both Dec shows. I want a Karen. Haven't seen that song in 11 years.

Also, I hope members of PJ and NTL hook up at those SA Lolla shows.

Going to both National shows this weekend in Vancouver. Been avoiding setlists as much as possible, however I do know they played Boxer in full in Belgium. If they do that here, it would be second to PJ playing any of their first five albums in full for me!

I’ll be there for both too should be interesting to see the diversity of the two set lists

Not my favourite setlist last night, but still quite good. Like you I am hoping for alot of different songs tonight. Even from the new album I hope they play a couple others such as Empire Line, my favourite. Ending with Vanderlyle acoustic will never get old

That was cool at the end he didn’t even sing the last song.
It was like when PJ plays Betterman only fans sang the whole song instead of a couple verses.
I felt last night show didn’t have the flow and cohesiveness hoping good things for tonight’s show

Secret Meeting and Fireproof are needed.

You got Secret Meeting....in the basement of your brain.
I was hoping for Guest Room and Demons (my white whale so to speak with the national as it is my favourite from them). Didn't get them, but did get 12 different songs from night 1. Can't complain!
I was skeptical going in to see back to back shows of them, but I was super glad I did. I had shit seats tonight compared to row 5 for night 1 and I liked tonight much better. Not sure why, but probably a better setlist, Matt's voice was so much better tonight and he also talked a bunch more engaging the crowd.

The national will never get old for me. L
  • chittychitty Posts: 574
Oh and the last song from night 1 is a very typical thing the National does. The crowd sings Vanderlyle with him not using a microphone. Pretty unique and cool thing to do

    Night 2 was next level!
Great flow throughout and ya Secret Meeting I lost my shit when they started that lol

Highly debating the hometown festival shows, mainly because they are promising two unique sets. That'll be 50 different songs, so essentially every song I love of theirs! However I am probably doing Coachella, on my bucket list, the weekend before so there's no way I can swing two traveling weekends back to back.

My first show of theirs was Detroit last fall and it absolutely blew me away. Favorite show of the year. Love this lineup- become a big fan of BIg Thief and Julien Baker lately. Probably going to drive down from Ann Arbor for the weekend.

We were at the show in Detroit. Agreed! It was wonderful!

Interested to see how all of this homecoming works out. Looking forward to two different setlists!

Smale Park runs along the river near US Bank Arena. I am only familiar with it as it provided those of us in the GA wait line bathrooms for the 2014 Cincy PJ concert.
