The National's Homecoming Festival was a GREAT experience for me... first class event & the performances we saw were all stellar!! I was really impressed with the venue... being right on the Ohio River with the Cincinnati skyline on the other side really was pretty cool. You really could tell all of the artists were having a GREAT time & The National truly felt at home in Cincy. Not only did we get Boxer in it's entirety on night 2... they didn't repeat a single song, AND we got almost every song from Sleep Well Beast over the weekend too. The only song they didn't play was Sleep Well Beast. I sure hope that this becomes an annual event... It really was a blast!!!

I agree with Dave. The event was great and a repeatable event! It was truly a family event and everyone seemed to be happy to be there.
We opted to stand along the river rail for night two. We moved down from pillar to pillar until we got to the last one before the security gate. I talked to the security guard and asked him if we could stand there and if it was okay for me to sit on the pillar. He was fine with it. We chatted back and forth for the next few hours. About 45 minutes before The National was to go on and after 3 hours of sitting on the pillar, someone came to tell me that I needed to get down. Long story made shorter, the security guard felt bad that they made me move. During the concert, he told me to follow him. I did and this is where he took me:
Security couldn't let me stay long, but they let me take a photo and were very apologetic that I couldn't hang out. I was just happy to be there.
He let me hang out a lil longer in another part of the secure area and back to my friends I went.
Along the river where we were standing was the most beautiful bridge with the moon rising over.
A fantastic weekend with some great friends . . . even if they did decide to make a photo opportunity out of my experience of getting stuck in the railing before helping me out. Will definitely consider going again.
I generally am not a festival person. It's logistically a nightmare and people are there for a scene more than the music way too often. I gave this one a chance because it was close to downtown and what I thought this lineup might attract in terms of crowd. I'm so glad I did. Great vibes everywhere and for a first-time festival I thought it was really great logistically. When I've gone to other festivals it's always been a major effort to get between stages and get your space at the main stage. This was a breeze and really enjoyable. I loved the sets from Julien Baker, Big Thief and Alvvays. Particularly for Julien Baker I was kind of struck by just how quiet and attentive the crowd was. She's truly captivating and an immense talent. Loved The National's setlist on Saturday and energy. Thought Matt was very Eddie like with the notably drunk and sloppy and yet fully in rock star mode and leading the group for a raucous party.

You just can't pass up the chance for another classic picture... especially when someone is in no position to argue, AND is asking one to remove their shoe at an outdoor music festival!! This one COULD even replace the "tiara" shot you love so much:
BTW... the tiara picture frame is NOT a PJ beanie holder!!

Cherrytree (The National's new paid fan club) sent out emails inviting members to come to soundcheck for a few upcoming shows. Looks like the Cherrytree was a good investment of $50.
I saw this yesterday, was really hoping a regular black vinyl edition was coming after I couldn’t get the RSD release, but it doesn’t seem like it for now. Maybe I’m wrong, but it seems like RSD ones listed as “RSD” first usually always used to get a bigger release later, but the last few years some just never do for some reason.
No time to be void or save up on life, you gotta spend it all.
Apparently they're playing a aftershow for Lollapalooza at The Metro. I didn't even realize tickets went on sale for that...obviously gone already. I'm about ready for Lolla to leave Chicago....miss out on so many shows because bands play there and these aftershows.
On a happier note...Boxer Live in Brussels is awesome. Been listening to that a bunch on Spotify lately.

They gave Cherry Tree members a heads up the night before. They made a small allotment of tickets available for a presale too. Its gonna be a good show. Haven't seen them in the Metro since the Boxer tour.

Nice. Not in Cherry Tree so had no idea about the show until the other day when I saw it was sold out. Enjoy the show...metro is the best.
