Dissapointing setlists so far

Great shows but...Anybody else dissapointed? Too much "Greatest Hits" repeats nearly every show, not enough diversity. Im not neccessarily looking for rarities, as Im looking for the boys to play different setlists every night, with different songs spanning their entire career. I have no problem with them doing what they always do with a new album--playing the new ones alot, but the other songs that have been filling setlists have been way too repetitive. Lets see some original setlists! I thought Detroit was on the right track, but the boys rehearsed for 6 weeks this time around, and considering how much they tried to vary the sets in 03, I so far have been dissapointed.

Here's the deal . . . people are gonna say "Well, they've played Rats, Satan's Bed, Garden, ..." I think that's great, but I also think there is some diversity missing. But then again, they have to play about 8 songs from their new album each show (which I love by the way), so that takes away from some of it. If you look at past set lists, those 8 songs that currently stay the same (9 counting evenflow) really make it hard to make some of the changes that hardcore fans want. But look at the sit down section of the Grand Rapids show. Look at Detroit. Look at Albany. Look at Toronto 2. Some of the same songs? Yes. Kick ass? OF COURSE!!!
. You see, it's impossible to please everybody. They don't want to become Dave Matthews Band. I love DMB, but think they change up setlists TOO much, sometimes leaving a concert with MANY good songs to be desired. I'd rather have PJ any day. Look at some of the greats: Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, David Gilmour, Paul McCartney. Same scripted show night after night. That's why I love Pearl Jam. They go OUT of their way to please fans. I mean, I'm sure there are 100+ songs they have to choose from every night. There's SO much they never play. But then again, so much they do . . .

It's sooooooo early in the tour. We have a long summer ahead. As the tour progresses, the set lists will begin to vary much more. They are just getting warmed up.11-2-2000 Portland. 12-8-2002 Seattle. 4-18-2003 Nashville. 5-30-2003 Vancouver. 10-25-2003 Bridge School. 9-2-2005 Vancouver.

What EXACTLY do you want to hear? What's "original" to you? They are promoting a new album so they're obviously going to play 5-8 new songs each night.....what else are you looking for? What's soooooo repetitive? They should play the standard favorites because those are the only songs that some people know......what else are you looking for? leash?0 -
We're only 10 shows into the tour. Check out the early shows from the 2003 tour, they were pretty standard setlists.
We've already had some great rarities considering how early into the tour we are. I can't even begin to imagine what they have in store for us over the summer.20-04-2006 04-09-2006 05-09-2006 11-09-2006 16-09-2006 17-09-2006 18-06-2007 21-06-2007 26-06-2007 28-06-2007 17-08-2009 20-05-2010 21-05-2010

Do you mean like you want them to shelve the Staple songs like Corduroy, Evenflow, and RVM? you still want them played just not every night? If I understand this correctly, you would like them to do what they did for the Boston trio shows in 2003 every night? not a single song repeated? If that's what you want, I agree that would be cool, but extrememly hard if not impossiable to pull off. Most bands, have like 5 or 6 songs that get played every night, cause it's just how bands do it- so they can try to have somethng that appeals to everyone, even though they know they cannot please everyone. Would you possably want them to pick like 4 or 5 new staples if the no song repeated sets won't work? I am just asking, I am not trying to insult your post, and don't want you to interpret it the wrong way. Just trying to get clarification to see if I get the idea you are going for. I think these sets are holding some big suprises, since we have gotten rats, satan's bed, Red Mosquito, Garden, and I'm open and Leash has been soundchecked apparently. I agree that the sets in Canada were similar for the most part but were still great with a rare appearence of Black, red, yellow.PJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14

I think judging a show by its setlist is irrelevant.
It's the experience, the energy and the sound that make a show. The jams too, and the interaction from the stage. Your seats and your mood sometimes can make a difference too. But you can't read a setlist from home and really cast an opinion on it. It's cool to hear a song that you really like, I agree, but it doesn't have to make or break a show. If anything I appreciate them doing Black with all the emotion they throw in it, never rushing through it, giving it all they got. Great performers all around.
If you always wait for that one rarity or marathon show, you're never really gonna enjoy yourself in there. It's just cool that you can't really guess what's next most of the time. Enjoy...96 Hartford

I get so sick of this.... Yeah, they should shelve the crowd pleasing "Even Flow" for "Education" and confuse 90% of the crowd? They have to get the crowd into it, and 90% of the crowd don't post here, ain't in the Ten Club reading setlists every night.... They are real people who need to be entertained. I would be pissed off if PJ neglected most of the crowd-thereby making an energy-less arena.0 -

They have already played some rare stuff (Rats, Why Go, I'm Open) and the setlist seem to span through their career. You gotta remember 80% of the people in attendance are not freaks like us. They want to hear Evenflow, Betterman, etc and the band wants them to enjoy the show too.0 -
They could definitly switch it up without playing rarities, and still playing their hits that 90% of the people there want to hear, not the off the wall rarities the people in the first 4 rows want to hear.
I Got Shit, In My Tree, Grievance, Low Light, Low Light, Faithful, etc. don't get played a lot, but aren't really rarities, however should be played more to increase the diversity. I just wish they'd play more of their more popular songs that don't get played a lot, not Evenflow & Jeremy every show.Pittsburgh 6/23/06

This is an amazing run of setlists so far, considering it is still the beginning of the tour. Boston II should be pretty insane.0

Hail,Hail bro!...Just check the encores, the second encores lately have been insane and yet we still see threads like these... We are so lucky to be getting this kind of energy from the band. People need to realize this.0 -

I agree!!! The band owes these c0cksuckers nothing!! They keep ticket prices down, rock out for 2 1/2 hours (dave matthews = 14 songs, at least 3 with 10 minute instrumentals), play songs from all 8 albums, switch up their setlists (U2 = same set for the entire tour).... and "fans" STILL COMPLAIN!!! It is sooo god damn ridiculous!!!!!
And I'm so happy the front rowers who want the rarities got pushed back on side stage seats for Grand Rapids.... probably the most front row energy of the whole tour!!8/28-29/98 Camden 8/3/00 VA Beach 8/27/00 Saratoga 9/1-2/00 Camden

No disappointment here.
I think reading setlists night after night is making you artifically unappreciative.
Reading about something is different from being there.&&&&&&&&&&&&&&0 -
this is supposed to be our favorite band. What the hell are people bitching about? Pearl Jam is playing Pearl Jam music if you don't like the setlists then go see cold play or good charlotte or some shit like that0

I think that most of us "freaks" would be very very happy if we got just one rarity at each show....those of us who go to multiple shows each tour are just wishing for that. We know there is not guarantee....but we still hope!
