I finally came around on the new LP by the way, good people! It's got tasty beats! Cranked it on my commute this morning!
I love the vocals in Un-reborn.  That track is killer to me.
Yeah, that one really got me. I listened with headphones and got this whole new sense of the record vs. speaker/streaming, etc., I said this in the WOD thread, but I think getting into their catalog for the first time right when this new LP was released kind of messed things up for a minute. I think it was my mood too - was feeling very somber last week and needed music that reflected that and this new one didn't do it.

I knew about the "drum issue" on this album before I heard it. I think it was Homme who mentioned what the drums were going to sound like - yes, it's on purpose. So perhaps it's because I was prepared for it, but in any case, I don't have an issue with how they sound at all. I think it suits the album, so I guess I am on the same page as the band obviously was in terms of the "tinny" percussion. Doesn't bother me at all.

Found a copy of Songs for the Deaf on red vinyl with the flower etching for 40$ today. Had it on the wall for 50$ but i talked them down 10 bucks as it's sort of a beat up copy couple dings in the wax and the jacket is rough around the edges but can't beat the price for an og press of this classic. Jamming it now and it sounds fucking amazing!!

I FINALLY received by deluxe copy. Wow, it's really thick, lol. I kind of regret getting the Deluxe TBH. That big book (that i haven't looked at yet) seems rather pointless now that I've received it. Whatever may be in there, I know I'm not going to pull it out and look at it more than maybe twice in my life.

pretty kick ass show!  Royal Blood played for 45 minutes, good selection of songs.  QOTSA came on at about 9:15 and show ended about 11:00.  Mixed it up a little from the night before so that was cool.  Got to hear Head Like a Haunted House debut live which sounded really good live i might add.   New stuff sounded great like Un-Reborn Again, Evil Has Landed and Domesticated Animals.   A Song for the Dead is a great live song, people went crazy for it.  Good times.

Really enjoyed the show last night. Royal blood played a great set, for 2 dudes they really get the crowd on their side and have some fun. QOTSA were fantastic, sound was excellent from my spot, entertaining set for sure, tons of fun. RB on at 8 off at 845, QOTSA 915-11

It's a long shot, but if anyone in Toronto wants to come along to the show tomorrow night, I've got an extra in the 200 sections (first seated section past GA). Face value, of course - and I'll probably have enough green stuff for two :)

I don't know... I just don't hear/feel what is so spectacular about this album, then again, I felt and still feel the same way about their last one. I guess I'm just still lost in their first 3-4 albums. I dig a few tracks off the last two but that's it. All good though, still a great fucking band/singer with revolving musicians.
I agree. Had a copy of the vinyl in hand while listening to it play in the record store the day it went on sale. By the time it was done, I put it back and picked up the Them Crooked Vultures vinyl which I had been looking for instead. I like when bands evolve and try different things, but this album is their version of Yacht Rock. Mid-tempo, no punch, drums mixed very flat, no dynamics. It's good for shaking your booty I guess, but doesn't grab me the way their previous work has. Been a slow, steady decline since Lullabies in my opinion.

New release is definitely squashed (compressed) , sounds better in the car. :(
