Any bets on how many of these protesters voted Trump? Anyone want to offer an over/under number?

Last time the white supremacists got together in Virginia they chanted that Russia is our friend. Having grown up with the Soviet Union being the evil empire, this was another thing I did not expect to see. Life is always interesting.

wonder if modifying some of these statues might be another way. reduce the height of the pedastals and add a series of plaques providing other facts about their lives. Stuff thats accurate and challenges the commonly held mythology surrounding the "lost cause" narrative pushed when these monuments went up.

Interacting idea. That might, in the end, do more to diminish the ideas of glory that some still hold to while also reducing their ability to craft the "anti-free speech"/ anti-history narrative.

This is where I went to college.  The statue of Thomas Jefferson has such meaning there - it's where you start the graduation procession.  This makes me want to throw up.

It's been pointed out - these cowardly crackers chose to have a rally in the summer when UVa students are NOT around.  Because if they'd held a rally a month later, they would've been toast.

(The statue issue is really complicated.)

Things at UVA tend to be complicated. They love to celebrate Thomas Jefferson but not mention that he was a slave owner.
I used to live in C-ville so I experienced this first hand.
Great town, too bad they have to deal with those racist a-holes.

    Good idea.

There is a great plaque I saw commemorating Bruce's Beach (Manhattan Beach). The key phrase that resonated with me: "Those tragic circumstances reflected the views of a different time."

People need to deal with the racist trolls the same way dealing with Internet trolls.

VA is really complicated.  People talk about Jefferson now about being a slave owner - they didn't used to.  I grew up in VA (went to - of course - Robert E. Lee High School).  Yep, very complicated.

I recently read the Chernow bio of George Washington and is was interesting how his attitude towards slavery changed throughout his life.  It's a great bio, btw.

From March to December 2007, Spencer was assistant editor at The American Conservativemagazine. According to founding editor Scott McConnell, Spencer was fired from The American Conservative because his views were considered too extreme.[13] From January 2008 to December 2009, he was executive editor of Taki's Magazine.[18]

In March 2010, Spencer founded AlternativeRight.com, a website he edited until 2012. He has stated that he created the term alt-right.[9]

In January 2011, Spencer became Executive Director of Washington Summit Publishers.[19]In 2012, Spencer founded Radix Journal as a biannual publication of Washington Summit Publishers.[18] Contributors have included Kevin B. MacDonaldAlex KurtagićSamuel T. Francis, and Derek Turner.[20] He also hosts a weekly podcast, Vanguard Radio.

In January 2011, Spencer also became President and Director of The National Policy Institute (NPI), a think tank previously based in Virginia and Montana.[21]

In 2014, Spencer was deported from Budapest, Hungary (and because of the Schengen Agreement, is banned from 26 countries in Europe for three years), after trying to organize the National Policy Institute Conference, a conference for white nationalists.[22][23]

It's not so cut and dry. You have a significant number of whites who believe this myth that somehow whites have been victimized the last 8 years.  The is sympathy for what white supremacists believe. You also have people who adopt all these rediculous false equivalencies, eg BLM is basically in the same ballpark as neo-nazis. This is basically a form of collusion and suggests a 'blacks need to stay in their place' mentality. If you look at survey data, about 20% of the country holds firm racist beliefs. What you end up with is people who think a lot like white supremacists, but certainly wouldn't say they are one.

Ive never heard this myth that whites have been victimized under Obama's term nor do I remember seeing any marches or rallys to that effect.

I'm talking about people that identifying as or support Nazis. Your 20% of the country is racist is probably low, but even if its 30% or 35% it doesnt mean all racists "support" Nazis. Im using your word "support". One can be racist and not support racists or Nazis.
Like I said in another post, I would have thought the white supremacists would have been more vocal against Obama then supportive of Trump.
Racist/white supremacist/Nazis have been around (holding rallys) for decades, why now are the being trusted in the mainstream, because Trump dog whistles, Trump gives them a platform or because now its serves a political agenda?

Racist/white supremacist/Nazis have been around (holding rallys) for decades, why now are the being trusted in the mainstream, because Trump dog whistles, Trump gives them a platform or because now its serves a political agenda?
You're just pulling my chain, right? Conservatives have been pushing this bullshit since Obama's first term. Righties in here would reference white victimization in here before they got the boot. I had a woman say whites have been victimized for 8 years unapologetically in a page yesterday.  It was trump's whole platform. The policies are about maintaining whites power and privilege by making minority groups a threat, and then speak to the fear. trump said he's the "law and order" president. "Muslim ban", "build the wall". White supremacists were vocal during Obama, but now they have been validated and supported by trump.

    assuming were not white supremacists:
Spencer has been pushing alt-stupid garbage for 10 years but when did he become "famous"? when did you first hear of Richard Spencer?
When do you see David Duke in MSM?
This is the part where we blame the opposition for someone's popularity rather than the people who support them?
One is too many but give me your best guess:
What percentage of the population are Nazis?
What % of population support Spencer/Nazis?

I think it's a secret conspiracy by the evil hegemonic Democratic party to push white supremacy to the forefront so that it will be decried and they can put a total cuck DINO into office.

That seems to be what you are getting at.
Apparently you never heard of Occam's Razor?
They felt marginalized and without power under a black President and an increasingly liberal population, Trump's win turned all that on it's head.
Sure makes more sense than the 4chan conspiracy theory you are dancing around.

You may be looking to deeply into this. I simply saying the sexist, racist, Trump Putin smears didnt work to defeat Trump 2016. The Trump Russia smears arent getting an impeachment. Well the next best thing, lets make sure Trump isnt re-elected, lets create a narrative that he and all who support him are Nazis/white supremacists. It may even work to unseat some republicans in the 2018 mid-terms.
What are my 4chan conspiracy theories anyway?

Read the headlines the last couple months, A WH in turmoil, Trump is unfit to be POTUS... its all political, its that simple.

I think you're trying to make it simple. Most conservatives are trying to look for easy answers by creating a narrative that this is politics as usual.

I don't know, this is pretty much the first time you've posted a straight comment that states your position in probably hundreds of posts.
You constantly post vague quips and leading questions and almost never actually communicate what you are intending to state.
