Achtung Baby No Code Bob Dylan, Blood on the Tracks Miles Davis, Kind of Blue JS Bach, Suites for Solo Cello (preferably on viola) Vienna Philharmonic wth Jessye Norman, Placido Domingo, etc.. Beethoven Symphony No. 9 Vienna Philharmonic, Mahler Symphony No. 2 And it's cheating, but two "best of" albums: The Best of the Staple Singers, and The Best of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong -- because the Staple Singers are soothing and uplifting, and because Ela Fitzgerald had the voice of an angel.
I think I could spend the rest of my life listening just to the above albums, and I could/ would be content.

Loving the selections and range of music styles. Ella is one of my favorites. Beautiful voice. I'd be more inclined to do what you did and pick one for multiple genres.
For almost 20 years now I have always thought "Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty" is amongst the greatest of all time. It really shows off the trios musician ship which sometimes gets lost in hip-hop.

Thanks! The Dylan and Miles Davis albums are top-to-bottom astounding, and the classical works, obviously, have withstood the test of time. Mahler 2 is the "Resurrection" symphony. and Beethoven 9 I assume everyone knows. Both are amazing creations, and both give me goosebumps and elicit tears.
I also like to encourage people to look outside of their preferred genres. Classical music has had a big influence on some rock musicians (Muse!), as has jazz. I've had to do the same, myself. I wrote off the Beastie Boys for years as a lightweight, gimmicky act; much later, I took a listen and was amazed by how good they were.

I love classical music. My absolute favorite is Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. It's such a beautiful piece of music. Opera is another one that I find absolutely amazing to listen to. I have to be in the right mood for both, but they transport me when I listen to them. So much deeper meaning there that you can hear.
I grew up on oldies because of my parents, branched out to country and then firmly set myself in the rock genre post 1992. I still listen to everything, but my rotation of music tends to lean towards rock, with new country being my least favorite.
My Top 10: 1) Quadrophenia- The Who 2) Highway 61- Bob Dylan 3) Revolver- The Beatles 4) Astral Weeks- Van Morrison 5) Pet Sounds- The Beach Boys 6) Exile On Main St.- The Rolling Stones 7) OK Computer- Radiohead 8) What's Going On- Marvin Gaye 9) The Joshua Tree- U2 10) Ten- PJ t) Hunky Dory- David Bowie

I didnt know anything about Rolling Stones but purchased Exile...should I have started somewhere else to appreciate it?
Here's a few you can try:
Sticky Fingers Let It Bleed Black And Blue Beggar's Banquet It's Only Rock & Roll Some Girls
Best ALL TIME Album? That's a tough one. Impossible almost. But here's a few of mine (off the top of my head):
Band Of Gypsys-Jimi Hendrix Electric ladyland-Jimi Hendrix Led Zeppelin-3 Led Zeppelin-1 Physical Grafitti-Led Zeppelin Quadrophenia-The Who Who's Next-the Who Live At Leeds-The Who Animals-Pink Floyd Close To The Edge-Yes Bridge Of Sigh's-Robin Trower
I just bought Pet Sounds on vinyl...I don't think I've heard any music from it before knowingly so no idea what to expect...but it's been considered best all time so let me find out what the fuss is all about.

+1 Are you getting the 20th anniversary reissue? Can't wait to hear studio versions of Lift and Big Boots.
Yes, I preorder the deluxe version! Can't wait to hear it too. I was a Radiohead fan before OK Computer but this album just changed everything. IMO, everything is just perfect, the music, the lyrics, the artwork, ... I am amazed at how it sounds ageless.

The thing that's "special" to me about Pearl Jam and Radiohead is that I too was there when they began and have experienced all of their albums in order of release, around the time they were released (i.e., Ten in 1992, Vs in 1993, Vitalogy in 1994,... and Pablo Honey in 1994, The Bends in 1995, OKC in 1997, ...) - yes, I was a little late in hearing the debut albums.

Also, Friday night's Glastonbury show has the potential to be very OK Computer heavy. I doubt they'll play the entire album in order (they don't seem to be very keen on Electioneering - and Fitter, Happier might not work mid-show) but I'm hoping the scatter the majority of the other ten tracks throughout the set list. There's usually an excellent audio source that surfaces from these shows.

must be a tough song to play live.
Got my hands on a copy of the three new tracks. They're quite good!
