Yep...about a gazillion times. I ended up sitting here til just after 4.30 this morning trying to figure it out. I hate letting this kind of thing get the better of me  I e-mailed the people I got it from last night, so hopefully they can help?
Did you have to use an installation disc for yours? Coz all I got was the Nero software?

    Mine's internal.
Could it be the USB cable?

    Oh OK.
I don't know? I did try the USB cable from my printer, to see if that would do it, but no:(
I think I'll give in soon though, or I'll end up fixing it with a sledge hammer  ;)

Without meaning to sound like an arsehole, but have you switched the power button on which is at the back of the case? :o

LOL! You don't sound like an arsehole :D It's quite possible it's something that simple.....BUT....yes, I've switched it on. It's got power going to it alright. Just when I go in to the burn program thingy, a window pops up saying something to the effect of there is no burner device detected.

It's OK....I didn't mean to trouble you with it....was just saying what I'm up to -STILL ;)

Does it show up in "My Computer"

If it shows up in "My Computer" then the problem is probably that Nero is selecting your internal drive, not your external burner

    Nope

Mmm......then it looks like it's either one of 3 problems:

    1) You need to download the relevant drivers
    2) Your USB cable is fucked
    3) One of the USB ports is fucked (either the case or the computer)

at least I don't think it shows in My computer - I couldn't find it....BUT.....I was looking for something 'LG'......but I should probably be looking for the case and not the burner - yeah? *shrugs shoulders*

I did try disabling the (internal)CD Rom, but that didn't help???

What is the full name of the drive and have you got Windows XP?

    I could be onto something

This might be the 'obvious thing' I was talking about. It says on the little booklet for the case 'For USB2.0' .....I don't think mine is 2.0?

To answer your Q's I have Windows XP Pro.

The burner is an LG Super Multi DVD Rewriter GSA-H55N
  • I've just done a 'Driver Agent Scan' and it's come up with 46% of my drivers being BAD (meaning - DriverAgent has a newer or better driver for this device.)
Will see if updating them helps?

EDIT: No I won't.....it's one of those 'scan for free' things and of course I now am expected to pay for the updates  very wary of those things.

Have you got more than 1 USB port?

Have just looked into it and I don't :( So that would be it, yeah?
It did say on the auction USB1.1 (or whatever the lower one is? ) compatible.

I guess I'll just wait for them to get back to me???

Can't be bothered with it any more - I'm getting a head ache :(

Yep....2 - have tried them both.
I think I'll just take it to the pute shop on Monday and see what they say - I've wasted WAAAAAY too much time on it already :)

The last thing I can think of is to download and install the latest Service Pack for XP from the Microsoft site. That's only if you have a legal copy of XP though. If you don't, then don't go anywhere near that site :)
