NASCAR and Eddie Vedder

I attended the Coca Cola 600 ~15 years ago. The entire Nascar scene was a complete eye-opener. It was definitely a fun experience: visited the Robert Yates racing factory and got to meet both drivers, Robert Yates and his son, VIP escort to and from the race track with police escort, even a round of golf. What blew me away with the hardcore fans and the Nascar lifestyle following all the races. Definitely serious business. To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. If you are one of those unhappy people...please call 1-900-IDN-TCAR."

As an outsider, no, not from what I've witnessed.joseph33 said:I maybe mistaking, but isn't the NASCAR community comprised of mostly rednecks?
What brings you to that assessment, and what exactly do you consider that description to encompass?
As someone married to one who likes NASCAR and has followed it since I've known and come to love him, again, no.
Actually, I've seen more stereotyping from those making that "redneck" assumption. It's an ugly and close-minded perspective, from here at least.
If you hate somethi---well, never mind. Live and learn.
Maybe.
Meantime, to Senor Vedder, rock the fuck ON.0 -
That's a pretty obtuse and racist statement.joseph33 said:I maybe mistaking, but isn't the NASCAR community comprised of mostly rednecks?

I'm not a fan, but I can appreciate that a lot of my family & friends love the sport. My father in law especially....he's done the Nascar driving schools 4 times.I LOVE MUSIC.

That's awesome for Ed. As for the redneck comment, no. I can see why people get that impression sometimes. I grew up watching it and even went to a Michigan race years back with my dad. I don't really watch it much any more, but still follow it. Now that I'm older, I hate the waste of so many fossil fuels for one sport, but the Daytona 500 is a classic sporting event I've always enjoyed. It's a hopeless situation...0

My reasoning is as follows. #1. Not a sport.#2. Not good for the environment. #3. 99.9 percent of fans most likely voted for Trump.#4. A majority of fans more than likely at one point, laid hands on a female.#5. Television reception in more than half of viewers, probably takes place at a trailer park. NASCAR is no different than watching paint dry. Would people here still defend it,if they didn't make a large sum donation to Ed's charity? My guess is no.Post edited by joseph33 on0

That's not "reasoning", that's stereotyping.joseph33 said:My reasoning is as follows. #1. Not a sport.#2. Not good for the environment. #3. 99.9 percent of fans most likely voted for Trump.#4.
