I attended the Coca Cola 600 ~15 years ago. The entire Nascar scene was a complete eye-opener. It was definitely a fun experience: visited the Robert Yates racing factory and got to meet both drivers, Robert Yates and his son, VIP escort to and from the race track with police escort, even a round of golf. What blew me away with the hardcore fans and the Nascar lifestyle following all the races. Definitely serious business.

I maybe mistaking, but isn't the NASCAR community comprised of mostly rednecks?
um...no. I'm not a fan, but I can appreciate that a lot of my family & friends love the sport. My father in law especially....he's done the Nascar driving schools 4 times.
That's awesome for Ed. As for the redneck comment, no. I can see why people get that impression sometimes. I grew up watching it and even went to a Michigan race years back with my dad. I don't really watch it much any more, but still follow it. Now that I'm older, I hate the waste of so many fossil fuels for one sport, but the Daytona 500 is a classic sporting event I've always enjoyed.
My reasoning is as follows. #1. Not a sport.#2. Not good for the environment. #3. 99.9 percent of fans most likely voted for Trump.#4. A majority of fans more than likely at one point, laid hands on a female.#5. Television reception in more than half of viewers, probably takes place at a trailer park. NASCAR is no different than watching paint dry. Would people here still defend it,if they didn't make a large sum donation to Ed's charity? My guess is no.

That's not "reasoning", that's stereotyping.
And that's too bad.

#1--Do you decide what's a sport? If so, I hope you keep us up to date with your findings on all sports that are on the "bubble." (Curling, Table Tennis, Bowling, etc....also...what do you think of the X Games?) #2--Most everything we do as a species is bad for the environment. I drive a dual exhaust V6 SUV, for example. Does that mean that my efforts to recycle are pointless? #3--I'd love to see the data on that. For example, my father in law loves Nascar....and he sure as hell didn't vote for Trump. #4--Again, would love to see data. Crime statistics? Police reports? #5--More stereotypes. Unreal. #6--I'd say it's a little bit different than watching paint dry. I've yet to see 2 pain cans zipping around a Home Depot at 100+ MPH and hugging the turn. Just saying. #7--I would always be willing to defend people being falsely stereotyped. Why? Because I feel that it is wrong.
And finally, as I've stated before... I am not a fan of Nascar. But you know what I dislike more than Nascar? Stereotyping people that you truly don't know. Life is far too short.

I hope you're joking, but in case you're not: #1 - You can define "sport" however you wish, but it is. Many NASCAR drivers participate in Triathalons (Jimmie Johnson, Josh Wise, Landon Cassill off the top of my head) and are finely tuned in hand/eye coordination and adapted their bodies to a high level of G forces they incur in a race car. They can lose over 8 pounds in a race and are on strict hydration schedules. These guys are athletes, plain and simple. #2 - All NASCAR vehicles run on E85 Ethanol. Recycling bins and stations are found seemingly every 30 yards at NASCAR sanctioned events. I've seen more trash left behind (and thrown on the field for that matter) at professional football games over NASCAR races. #3 - Total opinion with no fact to that percentage whatsoever. Out of 40, over 20% of NASCAR Cup series drivers are from California. Check out the democratic/republican voting percentage in that state. Some of the highest attended NASCAR sanctioned races occur in California, Delaware, New Hampshire. 4# - Again, zero facts. With many of them donating to charity and having foundations of their own for children and women, that's absolutely false. Myself and several of my friends (I can think of 50 individuals off the top of my head) that watch have never committed battery towards a female. So that ruins your "majority". 5# - Those same 50 I mentioned in #4, none live in a trailer. They own homes & the land they are perched upon.
I'm not an enormous NASCAR fan but I do know a lot about it and am friends with several involved/employed by it, and all of your points are pure stereotypes with no factual basis whatsoever. You may not like it personally, but that doesn't justify slandering it with zero fact and your own stereotypical/bigoted opinion.
Oh man, that is a nightmare!!!! And lol at the lady grind dancing by herself down in the first row at the very start of that video. And at the 26 second mark, does that guy have on a mullet wig or is that the real thing? So many damn questions.....

All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
What brings you to that assessment, and what exactly do you consider that description to encompass?
As someone married to one who likes NASCAR and has followed it since I've known and come to love him, again, no.
Actually, I've seen more stereotyping from those making that "redneck" assumption. It's an ugly and close-minded perspective, from here at least.
If you hate somethi---well, never mind. Live and learn.
Maybe.
Meantime, to Senor Vedder, rock the fuck ON.
Love me some NASCAR.

#2--Most everything we do as a species is bad for the environment.
Ok, I'm done. Back to life.

#1 - You can define "sport" however you wish, but it is.
And lol at the lady grind dancing by herself down in the first row at the very start of that video.
And at the 26 second mark, does that guy have on a mullet wig or is that the real thing? So many damn questions.....
All that I once held as true
I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
