I've been voting for Pearl Jam, Bad Brains and Janes Addiction. I think the band would be ok with that.

The number isn't going up by one when I voted. It did before. I don't think these votes are even working anymore, lol. It's clearly rigged.

I'm really surprised that Journey and The Cars have received so many votes. That is my problem with this HoF, it's nothing more than a popularity contest based on how many radio hits a band had and a measuring tool over who sold how many millions of albums.
PJ will be fine. The fan vote only counts for a single vote.

...and even if the fan vote did count for more, don't usually five nominees get in? So "we'd" be golden anyway!

    Owner Of A Lonely Heart

    I've Seen All Good People

You've heard of those 3 songs I would think.

You had also earlier posted that you hadn't heard of ELO right? You've missed out on some good music. Hit up the internet and give both bands a listen.

For a bit of nostalgia, I thought I'd watch Yes's "Owner of a Lonely Heart" video. I was around 10 or so when it came out and had no idea what was going on then. Guess what? I still don't over 30 years later! Would anyone here care to explain?

As much a I/we all love Pearl Jam, I don't think they have a bigger hit than "Don't Stop Believin'" Sadly, we have the 2005 Chicago White Sox and Tony Soprano to thank for this.

As for The Cars, they did have those nifty videos (well, they were good for 1984) with Paulina Porsikova (or however, you spell her name)

Besides PJ, I voted for Bad Brains, Chaka Khan, Yes, and some other band that I can't remember. Not Journey.

I'm okay with each of those others. They all made a contribution to music in their own way.

We do need, however, to get PJ to the top of the list . . . just to make a statement. Keep voting!!!

They were fifth forever and now all of a sudden The Cars lost 2 positions.

    Keep voting!

    http://ajournalofmusicalthings.com/fan-voting-rock-roll-hall-fame-hacked/

Has Fan Voting for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Been Hacked Again?

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame pays lip service to fans when it comes to voting who should make it into the Hall. (The real decisions are made by the Hall’s insiders, but they gotta do this for appearances, you know?) Last year, though, there was a problem: someone hacked into the system which saw the top five nominees receive an insane number of votes. That’s how Chicago finished on top. Allegedly.

The Hall said that all these problems were fixed and that this year’s fan voting would be totally legit. And for the first month, things were fine. But then…

In case you can’t make it out, that’s Journey in first place followed by ELO, Yes and Pearl Jam. The spikes were caused by the Hall releasing 500,000 votes. Cleveland.com explains what happened.

[T]he Rock Hall insists that the increase in votes is a result of votes being held back to prevent voter fraud. All current totals are indeed accurate, the Rock Hall says.

“There was a purposeful delay in releasing votes to the overall standings, but it was precisely so we could protect the vote from being hacked,” says Todd Mesek, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the Rock Hall. “The votes that were released yesterday were being held to make sure we could validate their authenticity.”

Mesek continued: “The ballots were determined to be legitimate and there was no over-voting. We made the decision to release these votes to the public website at one time. This is not unlike a typical political election where there are many votes that require additional validation before they are cast and the election is certified.”

Okay, we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. But if you’re horrified at the prospect of Journey being inducted ahead of Kraftwerk, then pray that things turn around before voting ends on December 15.

I suppose it says it somewhere (but I can't see it) but what do the results of the fan vote even mean? I realize that there's more to the voting than the fan results - doesn't it count for one of a hundred or so votes (the "members" get all the rest)? However, the R&R HoF usually lets in five or so artists each year so if PJ comes in the Top 5 does that count for something???? Anything????
  • BV84003BV84003 Holt, MI Posts: 360
Yeah, there's about 800 total ballots and the "fan" vote only counts for one of those. They all will get compiled together and the overall top 5 will make it in.

How many artists can each ballot contain? Assuming Journey wins this fan ballot thing (good grief) do they get a single vote and ELO, Yes, PJ, and The Cars get nothing?
  • BV84003BV84003 Holt, MI Posts: 360
I believe all ballots will contain 5 artists - at least the fan vote is advertised that way.

We have to keep voting!! I only vote for "1" when I do it - but right now Journey is leading.... voting has been extended until the 12th - Pearl Jam should be #1!
