this is definitely a popularity contest..i mean bad brains is second to last and journey first by a mile
My wedding is in 2 weeks. Journey is one of the few bands on the "do not play" list.
congrats on the wedding first and foremost!
Journey-Seperate Ways is my favorite of theirs, but i just cant grasp on how they are beating out all these bands...oh well
Separate Ways was the first rock song I learned to play on the piano when I was a kid.
There's on song in particular we don't want played. That one everyone sings. I can't even remember the name of it. I think I blocked it from my memory lol.
i think there are about 800-1000 voting members. Each one puts in their top 5 . So the fan vote is 1 of the 800 or 1000. I'm not sure of the exact number of members.

Open Arms? Don't Stop Believing?
Don't stop believing!
Ha! Good call. The last wedding reception I went to had a dj which I am not against but man the guy was lame. Pretty sure Journey was played.
Looks like by the end of this they will be 5th...kind of surprising
I'm not really surprised. PJ was megabig up to Vitalogy. They took a different trajectory starting with No Code. Instead of a giant base of casual fans, they have a smaller/dedicated base of core fans. I often have a hard time judging how popular they are, because I spent alot of time on this message board and thus get a biased viewpoint. I have noticed that PJ is pretty clever with their touring. They seem to play the US NorthEast alot which has alot of people and is easier to sell out shows. The tours also tend to be smaller. As they have a core dedicated fan base, people travel to see them (as quite a few people rarely get shows where they live). I've wondered how well PJ shows would sell out if they did big epic tours (two year tours with shittonnes of dates like the Foo Fighters do).
I'm always checked into sanity FM when I tell people I'm going to see another PJ show and the response is "They still tour?". lol. It reminds me of the things I mentioned above. PJ with their career trajectory seem to be right where they want to be. They have a solid core fanbase that supports them. They tour as much as they want to, but they're pretty much invisible to the world outside of that core fanbase.

I thought they would beat out Yes and ELO at least.......didn't expect them first by any stretch of the means
you are spot on about what you wrote...i think it was 2003-04 last "big" tour?
57708, 5444 behind Yes.If we end up 6th by the end of voting then I think it will be a 5th place vote. Since everyone of the members will be voting for their top 5. Obviously a first place vote counts for more.
I still vote 4-5 a day but seems like we're settled at 5th. Maybe this is the way it should be. Considering the scarcity of PJ shows, there is no point in attracting more people attention by coming at 1st spot. Maybe 5th is the comfy place.

I'm kind of surprised with how the voting has turned out. I know there are some people that are too cool to vote for something made up thing like R&R HOF, but I still thought PJ would be higher up this list. The overall number of votes is also much smaller than I would have thought.
If all of the people that attended the Boston show for example, PJ would jump up to first. I thought PJ would blow this thing out of the water once South America and Europe had their say
Lol, I think the "cool factor" has the ultimate role in this fan vote. You can see that with many of the nominees - I mean, look at how low Chaka Khan is! ... And we all know that Journey fans don't care about being cool at all, and are perfectly happy to vote 20 times a day with 20 different email addresses while they sit there in their acid wash jean jackets and play with their mullets .... but us PJ fans are toooooo cool for that, right?

Just vote Pearl Jam or you're competing against yourself. Pearl Jam only! How can we be in 5th place? This fan base is better than that!

One would only be competing against Pearl Jam if they vote for any of the four bands ahead of Pearl Jam. Not that any of this matters at all, lol, but I've been voting for Depeche Mode, Jane's Addiction, and Pearl Jam.
