Had the pleasure of interviewing Brian Fallon. Was one of my favorite conversation, could've kept going for hours. Here it is..... http://www.alternativenation.net/interview-brian-fallon-talks-unknown-future-of-gaslight-anthem-writing-new-music/

Good interview. But this uncertain future for Gaslight is killing me!

Thanks for sharing, a great read.
Maybe an Australian tour will happen next year......I can only keep my fingers crossed!

I truly believe at some point they will tour again together. Maybe they won't record again, which is too bad, as they are my second favorite band. But liking Brians new solo material as well.

They will. For one you can never trust what Brian says in interviews. Not saying he's not sincere because I think he is but he is unbelievably wishy washy and changes his mind like a 3 year old.

Plus half of his band is Gaslight.

I had a long conversation about the future of Gaslight with my friend at Fenway this weekend. Her opinion was that Levine could not want to come back due to his other businesses, but is replaceable. Benny could want to stop playing and just focus on being a father. She also thought that Brian would be stubborn and would force Gaslight tho change their name if they need to find a replacement for Benny or Levine, cause they technically aren't letting Ian in the band, he's just a touring member, so there is obviously some kind of deal witht he 4 of them being Gaslight, no changes.

When they announced the hiatus, I was 100% sure they were going to come back. Now I'm probably 80% sure....

Yeah. Not too worried yet it's only a year. Plus Brian has played about 300 shows so far this year.

I hope they Tour again soon. I just cannot get into his solo stuff at all.

Even if they don't make any new music, seeing gaslight songs performed live again would make me extremely happy.

they will come back and they will be bigger than they ever were before. Brian solo stuff is going to attract new people I think that will dig deeper to see where it sparked.

I think they ran their course. Saw them in 09 and they were killer. So good. Saw them in '14 and they looked like they didnt want to be there. Didnt like the last two albums either. Those '59 Sound days tho were exciting for me. I was hooked. Every band changes for better or worse. IMO for a while they had some magic that most bands never achieve

I kind of agree. I'm a huge fan but if they come back, they have to do better than Get Hurt.

  • I don't get the hate for the last two records, actually. Sure they're not up to snuff with the first three records, but I know another band whose entire catalog is unfairly compared to their first three.
Sure Handwritten and Get Hurt are no No Code or Yield, but compared to other rock around...I'll definitely take them.

Agreed. While American Slang and Handwritten weren't as good as the first 2 albums, I thought Get Hurt was awesome. I like that record just as much as the first 2 records.

I can't wait for these guys to come back....hopefully this hiatus allows them to come back strong.

I agree with this as well. LOVE the first two albums, but American Slang was a big of a disappointment to me. Handwritten was pretty well done, a little too polished and poppy (a little too Brendan O'Brien). But I REALLY like Get Hurt and it still holds up. Not sure why people don't seem to like it. I enjoy Brian's solo stuff, record and live shows, but I hope to see TGA back soon...

I love Get Hurt. Think it got a very bad rap.

This is the most positive comment on Gaslight returning I've seen from Brian yet. Usually he's much more vague

That's great to hear! That's the most he has said about Gaslight since the hiatus....like you said, he has always been extremely vague.

I only got into them at the end of 59 Sound, just before American Slang came out.

Love Sink or Swim, 59 Sound and Senor Ep. I liked American Slang and also found Handwritten solid for the most part, but have not listened to Get Hurt after the initial 10 + listens when it came out. There are a few songs on Get Hurt they I really enjoyed and another few that I really disliked.

I saw them live around 2009 and loved them live. It was lively and a fun show. Saw them on the Handwritten tour and Brian had a bit of an attitude at this show, wasn't terrible, but took away from the show and then saw their Get Hurt tour, which was slightly better than the last tour, but really had me missing the fun band I saw in 2009. They (mainly Brian) seemed very Jaded on the last 2 tours when I saw them.

I can't hear any passion in his recent Gaslight or solo work. I'm sure some can, but for me, he never really seems to belt out the lyrics. I love how he sings Blood Loss on the Horrible Crowes album, and obviously every song can't be sung that way, but nothingseems as paasionate anymore.

I agree with what Daron said, he changes his direction nearly every 6 months, so I'm hoping he can settle into some Gaslight stuff soon and find himself.

On a side note, how badly was their fan club run??? I was a member for the initial 2-3 years, but it was very hit and miss.

I love Handwritten but I also love his solo rekkid.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.
  • Oh the 45rpm Club SUUUUUUUUUUCKED. Bad. The only good that came of it is the shirt I have on right now for the members.

I think it was very visible the last 5 years or so of the band that Brian wasn't in his skin. After the 59 Sound he became the "next Bruce" or the "savior of rock and roll" and had guys like Bruce and like Eddie Vedder sharing the stage with him singing his songs. That's certainly enough to freak anyone out and have the fame go to his head. I think both are very true and I don't fault him one bit for it. I'd be freaked out with the accolades and I'd get a big head if all of a sudden Ed and Bruce were singing my songs.
