Quite frankly, that they refuse to participate in this farce irritates me.

I drove through (I think it was) Illinois one time and every county was allowed to accept or decline the time change so throughout the day the the time kept changing. It was like going through half a dozen wormholes.
i've been through dozens or wormholes and i can assure you, it's nothing like what you describe.

I lived in KY and worked in Madison, IN, and Jefferson county, in which Madison resides, did not participate in Daylight savings, so I was on different time zones all day, it was kinda weird and frustrating...the job only lasted about 6 months before I quit...worlds worst boss ever!

I saw a sigment on the news yesterday where an ER doctor said that there is a huge spike in heart attacks and strokes in the 48 hours after the spring forward time change. 25% more heart attacks, 23% more strokes than usual. That is crazy! He also said that the whole thing reverses in the autumn time change: 25% fewer heart attacks, 23% fewer strokes than usual in the 48 hours after we fall back.
He said to prevent putting yourself at higher risk after the spring time change (if you're older or have heart issues and whatnot) you should ease into it. Start going to bed a bit earlier each night for a week before the clocks go forward.

I saw a news story about that as well. It's been documented for a fairly long time. Seems like they should start telling people about it a week in advance though, if they're supposed to ease into it.

Which brings me back to my sentiment. WHY WHY WHY do we do this? It accomplishes nothing. Can't we just have it one way or the other instead of changing the time twice a year? :rage:

Losing an hour this weekend is well worth getting home when it's still light out starting next week

I like having it light in the evening. But it would happen anyway if we stuck to the regular schedule.

As Chad would say, the earth revolves around the sun, yes/no?

I could be wrong about this, but I think DST was originally used to save on energy costs. If light from the sun lasts longer into the evening, you didn't need to use electricity to keep the indoors lit.

You're correct, that was the original purpose. I think it was begun during WWI, abandoned for a while, then reinstated. But evidently the energy savings are insignificant.

I know most people do like more light later in the evenings, but I really don't. It doesn't just fuck with my sleep when the clock goes forward. It fucks with my sleep all spring and summer long. I have chronic insomnia. It's hard enough for me to wind down and fall asleep on time when it gets dark early. When it's still light out at 10pm, that makes it so much worse for me. The earlier it gets dark the better as far as I'm concerned (realizing I'm in a severe minority here).

Yeah, it's irrelevant now. It was a factor when people were still using coal inside their own homes, lol.
