What s the draw to the philly 2 poster? Is it because the show was so amazing? The artist?

I dig the poster but it's more about the actual show for me. It'll be the first poster I frame with the setlist and ticket stubs.
Yeah I figured it was more about the show than the poster. It s Pretty damn ugly lol

I feel the same way about the Lexington Poster. I don't get the draw. It's so similar to 2000 Texas poster.

I agree, to me the Lex poster looks like lazy ripoff art. I dig the Philly 2 poster because I was there and for the art. I like the colours, which like many a poster get lost in translation between in person and in a pic and the message is a good one. I'm also a sucker for pretty much anything with elephants, add my favorite band to it and a show I was at and it's a done deal.

I love the artwork and the message. The show was just icing on the cake.

General answer: It's an EMEK. No other explanation necessary
My answer: At first I was also like, meh. But then I saw it upclose and loved the details. AND it's an EMEK.
Other potential answers: People like the message, it was the Ten show. It was a great show. AND it's an EMEK.

And by the way, well timed by SLH. The poster is purple, and it's Prince Day, as declared by the Minnesota Governor.

For me, the draw is mainly the fact that I like collecting the posters for shows I've been to. have no interest in posters for shows I haven't been to, and even then..... If it's fugly, I'm passing on it. I regret buying the Montreal '11 poster, and I'm really glad I passed on the Denver '14 when I was at the merch stand looking at it.

This Emek isn't my favorite PJ poster, but the more I see it, the more I like it. I'm glad I got one in the shop today, but I wouldn't have paid much more for it.

The fact that it was the Ten show helps, but that still wouldn't have been enough to make me go to eBay. It was 10c shop or nothing for me on this one.

Edit: I didn't find any of the posters from this spring all that great. The Lexington print did nothing for me, but whatever.... To each his own. I seem to have a minority opinion about posters...... I thought the Pendleton was the best of the GCF posters, with the Hale 2nd & Transformers 3rd, but people went nuts for the Transformers..... Go figure. (I'm fine with that, I got the Pendleton & Hale each off of eBay for relatively cheap!)

I've also heard pictures don't do this print justice, that it's much better in person.

Or Emek may have been watching Survivor while he designed the print

Excellent answer, thank you. So in the world of music posters emek is king?

EMEK and Chuck Sperry both have crazy fan bases that will gobble up anything they put out. Their AP drops are notoriously difficult and frustrating. Some other artists are similar but those two I know for sure always sell out instantaneously.

Welker is joining the ranks - with Munk not far behind - Pendleton has an upward trajectory as well.

You think Pendleton too? I like some of his stuff (I have his GCF framed in my living room), but I'm under the impression most people here don't.

Emek has been the man for 20 years... SO many classic prints over the years it's ridiculous

This is my first show with an Emek print, I've been waiting for a while, so I'm a happy man...would have loved an A/P but it's all good

Love the print... pics don't do it justice as usual

Ames is still respected, but I think they are coasting more on their name as of late. If you are quick you can nab an AP from them. EMEK and Sperry drops seem almost impossible. As mentioned, Welker is getting there as well. Spusta is another guy who has drops that are notoriously difficult...not sure how many gig prints he churns out though.

I would like to see PJ toss Slater some gigs. Something for Wrigley would be awesome.

Ames still puts out some classics... they seem to just do PJ prints now, while all of the other artists do work for many other artists...
