great question. when i originally saw that tape, i was through the roof thinking about what could / would be on it....However, when i opened it up, i saw that originally it was a Zeppelin tape that was taped over....So, after the entirety of Vitalogy was overdubbed, it cuts right back into Zeppelin. Here is a picture of the inside of that tape cover to help illustrate my point....(its similar to the Angel tape where you can see that Ed recorded over Paula Abdul's Spellbound. Right after that version of Angel, it kicks right back into Paula.....)

Lol! Thanks for responding! I was dreaming of some fun stuff being on there!
I had heard a few years back that the take of owner of a lonely heart was killer.

you've heard correctly. That version of Owner is great and does end with Ed saying the following: "Hey Rick (Parasher), you can never tell anyone we ever did that". Also, included on that tape (Stuffins) is a great demo of Leash which starts with a classic Ed scream reminiscent of the Evenflow single (although the Leash scream is about 5-6 seconds longer...)

Is Dave krusen on drums for owner? I think I remember hearing him talk about it in an interview a while back. He said it was a great take.

Any songs other than 'Real Thing' on the Cypress Hill "A Zip A Tally" cassette?
  • cockagecockage Posts: 454
Bit tough for me to say definitively about the drummer on Owner. Could easily be Krusen, especially if you've seen an interview which he takes credit for it.

The W.M.A. is killer. One of the real highlights of these tapes.

Cypress Hill - the tape only includes that track, but the track itself doesnt include the main vocal track. Rather, just the bass line, drums and background vocals of "A Zip A Tally". Also includes the "na, na, na, etc..." at the end. The track is just over 3 minutes long. The Judgement Night soundtrack was ultimately released on September 14, 1993 and this tape is dated prior at May 5, 1993.

tough one to answer. I wouldnt compare it to Immortality at all, rather has parts that remind me of the drumming from Last Exit and then guitar chords that are reminiscent of Out of My Mind. Has slower tempo verses and more upbeat chorus.

Thanks for all the info on these.
I first heard of the stuffins tape back in 2011 at the EV show at the beacon from a guy from NY. He mentioned owner was on it, and I had read that interview with krusen and it all made sense. That's the last I'd heard of it till a few weeks ago.
    Now I know it's real!

Yea I think he played a bit of beast at MSG or Boston back in 2010.
I'll see if I can dig up that Krusen interview where he talks about owner. I think it was around the time of the release of the ten bonus disc stuff. Said it was one of the first songs they played together. But Being on the same tape as leash now has me doubting my memory!

theres no quicker way to get a thread locked than by posting links to download unreleased material. this isnt a sprint, its a marathon. Its been kept safe for over 20 years...finally unearthed last year and has taken this much time to properly digitize / categorize / label everything appropriately. those that know me, know that i treat others as i wish to be treated and trust in the fact that im always working to share the wealth as best as i can. lets not forget that i didnt start this thread....but rather than let it get out of hand with rumors and conjecture, i figured it would be smart to jump ahead of that all and provide people with the facts / info as best as i can....

that being said, im happy to continue answering questions should anyone have any, but please dont ask me to post links for this material in this thread.

"No this is totally different. I’ve never seen or heard of these before this demo tape. Let’s see, there’s a demo of leash that’s on here too. Nothing I’ve seen or heard before and not like on the Versus remix. The best part of the tape – or maybe not he best – but the most interesting part is a cover of “Owner of a Lonely Heart” by Yes. It’s….interesting. [laughing] It’s Eddie doing a falsetto. The best part is at the end you can hear Ed say to the producer Rick Parashar “Rick, don’t ever tell anybody we did this.”

If the Parashar part is true it has to be with Dave Krusen right? I can't find the interview where Krusen talks about owner of a lonely heart, but there were a few places that confirmed it was the same session as wishing well.

*this one isn't live, but was actually recorded during the 'ten' sessions w/ Dave Krusen. the band also did a few other covers during these sessions including 'owner of a lonely heart', 'it ain't like that', and 'touch me i'm sick' plus the 'touch me i'm dick' version as heard briefly in 'Singles'.

i came across this article from Modern Drummer (http://www.lukin.com/Articles/md12-93.html) in which Dave talks about one of the first things hes done with the band.

"DA (Dave Abbruzzese): Just a couple of weeks after I joined the band, actually, we went into the studio and recorded "State Of Love And Trust" and another version of "Even Flow" for a video we were doing. We ended up using that version of "Even Flow" with some film we'd shot of a show at the Moore Theater in Seattle because, by chance, they synced up really well together."

The version of Evenflow from the Masterdisc tape dated 2/3/92 is in fact the version from the Evenflow video that is referenced above. The B-side to the tape however, is Breath and not State of Love and Trust.

tape can be seen here: https://www.collectionzz.com/Cockage/pearl-jam-cassette/pearl-jam-02-03-92-masterdisk
