Black Lives Matter Protesters Block SF Bay Bridge.

Speaking as a minority i can say that this is irresponsible and not well thought out. Embarassing even.
What if an ambulance or a firetruck couldn't get through? What if you missed your nerve wracking doctor's appointment that you had to book two months out? Couldn't pick up your young child? All because people stopped in front of you with a silly attempt at making a statement. Go park in front of a politicians house or the police dept. Dont mess with innocent people of ALL colors and ways of life.
Good job losing support0 -
New Jersey politicians may be prosecuted for shutting down some lanes on the GW bridge. The protesters who do the same thing without a permit should be prosecuted as well.

I don't think that is an honest assessment. We are all going to be blocking traffic to see our favorite band in a few months and nobody is going to decry the risk with first responders. Every major college and professional sports organization causes twice the disruption dozens of times a year.rr165892 said:
OSU games fuck up the city of Columbus like you can't believe, right next to the biggest hospital in town, but nobody cares because sports get a pass.

Gold star for you today Buddy. Your post sums up everything I have heard from the general public when dealing w/ the knucklehead BLM protests anticscp3iverson said:Speaking as a minority i can say that this is irresponsible and not well thought out. Embarassing even.

The difference with that is cars move over for the flashing lights. Nobody would have been able to move in this case.rgambs said:

A bridge is different, that's true, but (admittedly ignorant of the specific geography of the Bay area) I doubt first responders would need to cross the bridge at all.tempo_n_groove said:Monkey Driven, Call this Living?0 -
I get what you're saying but I know the area well and I really believe it was a bad choice of location. If for no other reason, that bridge backs up traffic badly on any average day so I can easily picture this could have backed up traffic onto other roads and access.rgambs said:
And I'm good with the idea of being flagrant in calling attention to an issue (though as I said elsewhere I've also become more in favor of taking action than of simple protesting) but in this case I'm guessing the number of people that action pissed off hugely far outnumbered the number of people it enlightened.
We need to raise awareness about racism, inequality and injustice in America. I'm just not sure this is the way to do that.
What are some actions that might have been effective and would have lead to better gains for African Americans? This is the question I would ponder first."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
I was for a while, a professional protester. Lock downs, banner hangings, blockades, tree sits, etc. Getting the attention of the media is one thing but sabotaging the evening commute is never going to win you many fans!when he's happy he looks insane

Nicely done, scorpio2k. A useful protest or action needs to be well thought out and done in such a way that no harm, injury or fatalities occur. Blocking a major route is unsafe.scorpio2k said:I was for a while, a professional protester. Hopefully BLM is learning from what many consider to be a mistake."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
Not asking you if it's bad to block bridge. Of course it is. As to danger, sure as hell more dangerous to be young black male pulled over by red neck police officer.ldent42 said:
I don't know anything about the streets in SF. But pick an avenue and block traffic there. Bridges are dangerous. Protest outside of political buildings, outside of the news station buildings, Fill up whatever the SF equivalent of the Great Lawn is with protesters. Hell march from the news stations buildings to city hall. But don't cut off access from one land mass to another however many hundred feet above a body of water. Just no.10-18-2000 Houston, 04-06-2003 Houston, 6-25-2003 Toronto, 10-8-2004 Kissimmee, 9-4-2005 Calgary, 12-3-05 Sao Paulo, 7-2-2006 Denver, 7-22-06 Gorge, 7-23-2006 Gorge, 9-13-2006 Bern, 6-22-2008 DC, 6-24-2008 MSG, 6-25-2008 MSG0 -
Getting people to talk about fascism is the key. It's a real problem. And if it means blocking traffic so be it.brianlux said:

I would take a different approach but I respect your avid concern for the issue, Callen.callen said:"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
