Sure, the Hip and PJ touring together would be awesome, but as double headliners. The Tragically Hip shouldn't be opening for anybody!
I feel exactly the same way when I hear people suggest My Morning Jacket open for PJ...
After the debacle that was the Americanarama tour,
They should NEVER be an opening act again!!!

What is the coles notes version of the Americanarama debacle?
When the tour was announced...
they said it would be rotating headliners.
Bob Dylan would headline on night, Wilco the next,
and then My Morning Jacket next.
This never happened.
They also added another "opening" act for many shows...
leaving even less time for the other groups.
MMJ ended up getting about a half hour,
Wilco got 45 minutes & Dylan played maybe 90 minutes.
Ticket sales really dropped off when people found out about this and they ended up cancelling many of the shows!!

I don't understand why anyone would care if there is an opener unless they are front of GA and not wanting to leave it, since an opener means extending their time on their feet and unable to go to the washroom (and I totally empathize with that position). If that's not the situation, though, why would you not want an opener? You can either check it out, or take your time getting to the show. PJ doesn't play for less time when they have an opener, so that couldn't be the reasoning behind it.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata

You got a point there....
No "No Code" or "Yield" last tour for me (Worcester I and crazy Denver for me!!!) but i'll get the Hip's "Fully Completely" ont feb 20th... this will be awesome!!!
Still a double headliner of the Hip and PJ in Montreal at the Parc Jean-»Drapeau... woo hoo!!!

I'm seeing these guys in a few weeks and they are a solid fun rock band from Athens, GA. They've opened up for Kings Of Leon, Band Of Skulls, BRMC, and a few others.
and i've said this before in other threads, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club B-)
Foals would be pretty awesome as well. Saw them a few weeks ago in philly and Yannis, the lead singer, kinda reminded me of a young Eddie. He was crowd surfing/stage diving, jumping off balconies, went into the crowd once and the fans were really into them, lot of "moshing"
I dig opening acts. Loved when I saw band of horses and social distortion. My vote would be for Gaslight Anthem. They could close their set with the PH cover State of love and trust. They friggin crush that song. Props

Bring back the D!!! I think Tenacious D would really get people ready... have some fun and rock out with Jables and Rage Kage, then let the greatest of all bands bring the house down as only they can do.
I prefer no opener, but if there was an opener I would want to see The Hold Steady.

I was just introduced to The Black Angels a couple days ago...they're pretty good. They're kind of psychedelic/dark/grunge/joy division. But yeah no opening band ever please.
