    ANYTHING...

Is better than Ledbetter to close a show.

What if they played more studio version-ish?
If he made an effort on the lyrics - instead of unintelligible mumbling with "wayside" thrown in every 3-4 words - that would be a big improvement.

I think the best days of YL are way over; the last good versions were in 2000 or 2003. Matt has a lot to do with it... and Eddie too; it seems to me they no longer put the same effort in that song as they used to, but that's another topic. Indifference and Fuckin' up are the best closers in my opinion, but Indifference needs to be played with the lights off.
If I knew where it was, I would take you there.

That's how I feel about Breath live but with the horrible humming filler. I have yet to catch it live tho.
Oh please let it rain today.

I think I've only seen Indifferent close shows out twice. It was the backspacer tour in seattle that I finally heard it live. It doesn't get a lot of love (ie play) at the shows here in the Northwest. I really like the song, so closing with it (instead of Ledbetter) is still a novelty to me (as it's something I haven't seen too often).

My favourite closing is when they play Ledbetter but feel the urge to play another one. I think I've seen them bust out Baba o' Riley a few times doing that, and I think the Seattle '02 had a Christmas song after it.

Any time they play something after Ledbetter you know they mean business :)

I finally got Indifference at my last show - St. Paul '14. Agree that it should be played with the lights off, only to slowly rise near the end. Highly enjoyed it though!

I agree. I think YLB could be great, but it's really just kind of dumb because it has completely unintelligible lyrics. I consider it more of a joke than anything else. Hell, it would actually be better if Eddie sang the entire misheard lyrics from youtube, lol. Make me fries. =)

I love this as a closer...maybe my favorite.

And I actually don't mind the lights up...it's kinda amazing looking around at all these people who are just as stoked as you are, tired, but so, so happy after an amazing couple of hours. Just that energy just calming down into a slow burner like Indifference, seeing everybody's hands up when Ed sings 'I will swallow poison...' I dunno. Just a perfect closer to me.

  • Turn all the lights off and close shows with this from time to time when there are two night runs in a city. It's perfect.

  • At first I questioned it in the closing spot, but now I love it. No way the lights should be bright however. Would like to see how it works as song #1 or #2 coming out of the first encore.

The problem with "Indifference" with the lights down, as a closer, is that I don't think the band wants to end their shows on a "dark" note anymore. It's the same reason "Parting Ways" probably won't ever end a show (again.) It's a bit of a shame really but the band seems to be having much more fun on stage than they did 10-15 years ago.

Just wondering (I suppose I could look it up): Were the lights off during "Indifference" back in 1994 - or even 2000?

No, no. I didn't mean that at all. I think it's great they are having a good time. If they weren't, I don't think they'd still be around. What I was implying was that it's a shame that I missed out on seeing the emotionally "heavier" performances of the two songs I mentioned.

delete - I kept quoting myself instead of editing myself.

    I love Indifference.
