I never got one and would like that to change, but they rarely do improvs now.

  • the jury is out for me on it. I've been listening to a few, and the crowd seems particularly dead during and after an improv, and usually just claps politely before the band rips into something familiar.

This may be the majority but I thoroughly enjoy

I have never seen one live that i can remember.

But all my favorites are my favorites because I have listened to that boot many times over, so I'm not sure if I would get the same enjoyment with it being new...

Love live improvs from capable bands. The crowd and the band together get to witness the new sounds emerge The casual listener may get lost but those engaged w/ the band's music have their attention further magnetized to what's being created on stage.

My favorite is Altar - Melbourne 95. It's rather beautiful. If anyone hasn't heard it, PM me, I've got the mp3. :)

Got one in Columbus '03. Out of all the shows I've been to this one ranks last for me. Not the best set IMO and the crowd sucked. The improve did not help and I didn't know what the hell he was singing about until I listened to the boot.

EDIT: Went back and looked at the set. Go, Red Mosquito, Not For You , Footsteps, Jeremy, and Dimi's white whale Ghost. I would take any and all of these in a set today and love it. it was a buzz kill crowd that night with a lot of people leaving right after Fucking Up before they came back out with YL.

    +1
It illustrates the creative process in a tiny way.
