Doesn't this happen with other artists and they just cancel the excess orders? I think their intentions are good but this is a lousy solution. The print is only worth $250 because it was supposed to be extemely limited. No mass produced poster is worth $250 from the get go.

So I still don't know why the hell they can't say how many were to be sold initially, look at the order numbers, say if it's like 50 then sell the first 50 orders, then the rest refund. That would have been too easy... So instead let's not upset anyone, and just sell more. Oh, well. Just probably meant that I shouldn't buy posters anymore.
I'm giving them till Monday to appease me and the masses with a proper solution or at least a full disclosure of the original print run, actual print run, and gross donation they are making to Vitalogy.
If no new developments I'm cancelling this order with them and they've permanently lost me as a customer.

Under these current circumstances cancelling an order is entirely reasonable regardless of their posted policy. I paid with VISA as well so there is recourse there if needed. Bottom line is not receiving what was advertised at time of sale.
I'm not upset by what i paid, what the end print run is etc... I like the gold version and went for it first. If I didnt get in in time to get one of the ORIGINAL HANDFUL, and there isnt any other reasonable options for replacement print / partial refund etc... i want my money back.
They handled this so poorly on so many levels and it looks like they simply don't want to entertain the task of processing credits.

The Gold version was a misrepresentation. Falsely advertised. They changed the title AFTER THE FACT!!! Of course you can cancel your order.
I was right I guess about it being a shitshow before the drop even happened!
I don't know what to make of the whole thing - I understand they are doing what they think is right, but not disclosing the print run and giving the option to opt out is kinda bad.
Which probably means, a majority of people would opt out if they knew the numbers. And that's a lot of money they lose.

So everyone likes the gold variant one if it's limited to a low number, but if its run is increased and the additional money goes to charity then everyone wants a refund?
It was advertised as a handful of prints. People - myself included - bought it because of the low print number. It was $250. I'm fine with the money going to a charity, but at least tell us how many of these fuckers are gonna be printed.
On the other hand, I've personally donated a fair amount of money towards the Vitalogy Foundation, and maybe I'd like my extra to go towards something else.

Where am I?
Problem is people paid a premium for a more limited version of the print, if they're going to change the description why I'm not allowed to to change my mind if I don't want the print anymore?

Want to add this to the thread..there was a thread at official facebook ten club members about t prices of posters when artist sale at their websites..alot complain or said its very expensive the transformers ones..someone mention Don Pendleton and said he will not do the same when his posters go on sale This is the 2 comment of Don Pendleton to the conversation. 1. "I appreciate the vote of confidence...Value vs. price is a tough thing to manage as an artist. I try my best to be fair where pricing is involved but I have a publisher that sells my prints and I'm obligated to maintain a certain level of value, both for collector's sake and for the sake of those who sell my work.
The first print I ever did in 2000 sold for $55, signed and numbered, an edition of 50. I've spent a lot of time trying to build the value of my work over those 15 years…like other artists, I've taken chances and risks to be able to do it full time.
So while there has to be a balance, like with every other career, there has to be some kind of return. This is all I do…painting and occasional freelance work. I don't have any steady income, I only do 3-4 prints per year and so all of that factors in.
I realize most who buy this one (and other PJ prints) do so because of the association with the band only. And I'm cool with that. It's just the desire to be fair vs. maintaining a certain established price that can make it difficult.
So that's the long and short of it…at this point, after struggling for years to get solo shows, I've had a solo museum exhibit, there's been a grammy now…I think anyone who has been doing the same job for 20+ years would agree that if you are making the same amount now that you did when you started, it would be pretty disappointing on a professional level.
I'm not sure when I'll receive my prints but before I set a price, I want to be able to physically look at the quality of the printing and the paper and it'll be a price that is consistent with my other work.
It's a releveant conversation to have and I'm glad that it gets discussed."
2. It's absolutely a fair question to ask by collectors and fans…and I think artist's should address it when it comes up so again, I appreciate you bringing my name into the discussion."
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
"..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”
I don't know why people are so shocked that people are unhappy that it's a larger print run than expected. This is why art prints are numbered in the first place! Those who went for gold paid a premium for the exclusivity of that edition, now that isn't the case they have every right to a full refund, I know I would have.
Very poor by Ames to let this happen and provide this 'solution' IMO. They should now let people know how many orders there were and offer a refund to all involved.
To be honest I don't know how anyone can justify charging $250 right off the bat. It's ripping off the folks who really want that piece for their wall, to combat those who are buying purely to flip.
I get that the balance is difficult and I get the notion it's better the artist benefits than anyone else but $250 for a piece that hasn't yet entered the market - the starting price is IMO very very high. Of course enough people jumped on it to justify the pricing but it doesn't take away from the underlying issue of how much is enough ?
130 at $100 85 at $200 And god knows how many at $250
The merch environment is so hyped the fans were always going to get taken advantage of. And here it starts.
But then who can fault someone for cashing in on demand ... That is after all the society we live in.
Email Ames and request a refund as well as open a dispute with PayPal in their Resolution Center. Figured it cannot hurt to do both as this was beyond misleading and both a bad business decision and a poor customer service experience. The customer in the end should always feel good about their purchasing experience and not be mislead on what exactly they are purchasing (especially when it comes to collectibles and $250)
Hmmm.... Not sure how I feel about this one. I'm all for my money going to charity, but would feel better if I paid $100 instead of $250...
An appropriate solution would have been: Tell us how many were printed Refund us $150 each (so we spend $100 on each one) Ames donates $50 of each poster sold to vitalogy, keeps $50
I just think it's too expensive of an item for them to be like "whoops, sorry, well atleast your money is going to charity"

I'm going to cancel my Gold order. There HAS to be 300+ of the gold version.
But! They are donating the money. That must be a lot of coin. That is a good thing.
