Boehner looks like he's ready to fall asleep.

And yeah, right now - "do unto others". Amen, Francis. Amen.

I find the Pope very interesting. He talks about climate change and he's anti death penalty and "let's help the poor." I don't expect him to allow women to be priests or say "hooray for gay marriage," but he isn't all about negativity. And I find that refreshing.

I agree with the notion that the Pope's #1 concern should not necessarily be political but when I see a quote like the one that follows, I have to say I would consider voting for Francis if he ran for office:

“Each son or daughter of a given country has a mission, a personal and social responsibility. Your own responsibility as members of Congress is to enable this country, by your legislative activity, to grow as a nation. You are the face of its people, their representatives. You are called to defend and preserve the dignity of your fellow citizens in the tireless and demanding pursuit of the common good, for this is the chief aim of all politics. A political society endures when it seeks, as a vocation, to satisfy common needs by stimulating the growth of all its members, especially those in situations of greater vulnerability or risk. Legislative activity is always based on care for the people. To this you have been invited, called and convened by those who elected you.” -- Pope Francis

Do you guys think his speech will help in avoiding the government shut down ...

no. republicans will shut it down, just to be dicks.

if they do, they have to forfeit their claim of having a monopoly on christianity. plenty of lefties like this pope and are willing to think about what he said, instead of dismissing it out of hand.

Some used to refer to the church I grew up in as the "frozen chosen". It's good to see some thawing out going on. To me "church" is big waves on a rocky shore, mountains or rock concerts but for those who are more faith focused this must be great. It's cool to see this may be starting to happen.
