OK, so what makes one ritual satanic and another holy? We could argue this forever. The rituals are part of the culture, who cares? What counts is that the Pope (any Pope) has a LOT of influence over many people so anytime a person in that kind of position is showing care for the people and care for the earth I don't give a shit if he smoke trolls with the Devil on his off hours. He's doing good things, that's what counts.JUST A GIRL said:The popes go through a satanic ritual when being appointed as the new pope. God only knows what that white smoke we see is.

As for you last statement, don't you claim to be religious? Or are you one of those fundies that claims to be closer to God than the religious masses?"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0 -
i heard the satanic ritual involves chanting "yes we can!!" over and over again while listening to stairway to heaven backwards.
"You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."0 -
by the way, that was said purely in jest."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

I'm not a republican, but I am religious and I think most people really have no clue that there are a lot of religious people out there whose beliefs do not conform to what is attributed to them by religion-haters.The only people we should try to get even with...
...are those who've helped us.

Never said he represents liberals. Not my point. It's republicans claim to represent Christianity and family values. And they are criticizing popes values.jeffbr said:
So this guy now represents liberals (or at least is being praised by the left)? What about reproductive rights (not just abortion, but birth control). Women in the priesthood. Gays in the priesthood. I am so glad something Christian is aligning with peace loving socialist pinko liberals. We are anti death penalty. Medicine for the poor. Just never understood how republicans claimed the virtue card. Yeah abortion. Guess we could work on that one to minimize it's use. Science will fix this I'm sure. Republican war mongers are then doomed.
I'm guessing neither this pope's views, nor that church's doctrine is a liberal's wet dream. I think it is safe to say that this church is probably out of touch with the views of many on both sides of the divide. I don't know how someone with conservative views can support this church (and by extension, this pope). But I also don't know how someone with liberal views can either.

Think we get that. Have family and friends that identify as religious and we all have same views on real world stuff.know1 said:I'm not a republican, but I am religious and I think most people really have no clue that there are a lot of religious people out there whose beliefs do not conform to what is attributed to them by religion-haters.

He did touch on the institution of marriage0 -

I see what you're saying. I agree that he is stirring things up, and I think he's been the most interesting and progressive pope I've seen in my lifetime. But for me, he still presides over the largest organized pedophilia ring in the world. They have unmarried, celibate dudes counselling couples about marriage. They have massive wealth and the trappings of wealth for the sake of pomp and circumstance, while portions of their flock starve. They do missionary work and convince these poor, under-educated people to continue to reproduce. They actively campaign against many progressive initiatives (like gay marriage). And with all of the rituals, mythologies, and bizzaro ceremonies, I don't think he has much to offer me. So for a number of reasons, while I think he's the most progressive pope we've seen, it is all relative. I give kudos to the guy for doing something, but it is a stretch to think that he will have the ability to affect the kind of change that will bring the church into the 21st century.callen said:
