Red Rocks was a damn solid show, but nothing earth shattering. I feel like one of their problems is they switch up the sets every night, but still play the same songs every few nights for the most part.
There were no break outs at RR if I am correct. I am pretty sure I have seen every song they did. Granted, they played some killer versions of songs and I would have really loved it if I were, but I can almost tell you what songs they will play in a given night.
I guess I am just super fresh off the Phish shows where any given night you can get a breakout, like PJ. Just goes to show you that they have some serious work to do to get up to PJ and Phish level.'08- Camden 1-2 '09- Chicago 2; Spectrum 1-4

but MMJ mix up their sets much more than PJ do at this point,
especially for a group that has a catalog of almost twice as many songs as the other.
Pearl Jam opened practically EVERY show the last 2 years with the same song...
and you've stated...
"they switch up the sets every night, but still play the same songs every few nights for the most part."
You REALLY think PJ doesn't do this??
I did 7 shows on the last PJ tour and 10 shows (plus Wrigley) since the release of "Lightning Bolt" and besides one or two so-called "rarities" per show, many of which I have heard MANY times, the setlist they are playing have been pretty predictable...so much so that you knew which song was coming up next...You could count on hearing Pendulum, Lightning Bolt, Mind Your Manners, Sirens , DTE, Alive, Even Flow, Black, Elderly Woman, GTF, Better Man, RVM, and Porch at every show except for the "special" shows like Moline & Milwaukee...
AND if memory serves me correct, MMJ did shows like these a few years back,
and played every album released at the time,
in it's entirety at a 5-night run of shows at Terminal 5 in NYC.
My Morning Jacket are on a real TOUR...
and they are playing 3 times the number of shows that PJ will do this year,
so of course they are going to be playing these "same" songs more often.
I did 9 shows on this MMJ tour (that's practically a whole PJ tour these days)
and I got at least one song I had never heard before at every show...
including "I Think I'm Going To Hell" at Red Rocks.
AND when MMJ play 2 shows back to back in the same city,
they will NOT repeat a single song...
You can't say PJ will do that my friend!!
They are both STELLAR groups to me...
and while PJ has, and probably always will be my favorite band,
My Morning Jacket is performing at a level I've not seen PJ play for a few years now!!
And that's my opinion!!Post edited by derbydave on'96: Seattle: Key Arena

I don't listen to Phish for their studio stuff, cmon mayne!!
And I'm just nitpicking with MMJ, obviously they are one of my favorite bands ever. But yes, Pearl Jam does it too but they also mix in a bunch of songs that haven't been played in ages. MMJ switches sets but will only hold songs back for a handful of shows. That's not saying they aren't outstanding live, but going into both OBH's and the Chicago trip this year I knew I would hear about 90% of the songs I had in mind. It took me 19 PJ shows to see a show where I did not get at least one song I haven't heard live and Phish I doubt I will ever hit..... I think it was less than 7 for MMJ.
Again, if it sounds like I'm being harsh it's probably because I expect them to make that next jump. They did a few years ago by at least not playing songs back for the most part, but now they have to figure out this last piece and they can be at the very very tippy top level. They have the ability to do it.'08- Camden 1-2 '09- Chicago 2; Spectrum 1-4
