No but when the Navy showed up with the taps and the flag it was the most emotional part of my dads wake.

I know of some guys Ident. I can probably find one for you.
Thank you Hedo. I did quite a few burials as I was in a small unit in Wisconsin of all places and we had that duty for pretty much the whole state. I was a riffleman for the 21 gun salute. The funerals never bugged me as this was peacetime so it was all elderly veterans. I loved that I could help provide that service as they earned it. Until we got a 21 year old kid that got hit by a train at his unit in California. He was the same age as I was at the time. We always sat with the family for the service and I watched the Mother cry the whole service. It crushed me and was something that stuck with me and was a part of why I decided to get out after my initial enlistment ended. I couldn't do that to my Mother or my GF who I married a week after I got out. The Marines have a tradition of leaving an empty place setting at the Marine Corps ball for all the fallen soldiers who couldn't be there. I set one up for that kid, my grandfather and everyone else still on Memorial day dinner.
Do you barbeque on Memorial Day?Tom Brady & Donald Trump, BFF's

Beautiful post, cdy - I get the pride, sorrow and remembrances. The comfort and traditions too.
We haven't bbq'd since our condo association dictated we had to use propane grills on our balconies. I liked our Weber one, dammit!
Is there anything better than the smell and taste of grilled meat?0 -

does having weeds on your lawn bother you?Hamilton 9-13-05; Toronto 5-9-06, Toronto 8-21-09, Toronto 9-12-11, Hamilton 9-15-11....0 -
Nope. Bothers the neighbors with the perfectly manicured lawns. The chemical people try to tell me that I'm the only one in the 'hood not partaking in their chemical regimen. I know that is a lie and I don't care. Must keep the yard organic for the butterflies.
Any butterflies out your way yet?2014: Cincinnati

No
Do you find people who are obsessed with their lawn ridiculous?Anything you lose from being honest
You never really had to begin with.
Sometimes it's not the song that makes you emotional it's the people and things that come to your mind when you hear it.0 -
Yes. I love that people in LA are lawn shaming people on social media who continue to water their lawn in the drought.

Haha, me too! And the golf (almost called them "gold") courses here are being taken to task as well.
Sometimes I think public shaming IS a good thing. People want to publicly do whatever, then be ready to face repercussions even if not well-founded. Hold yourself accountable for your actions.
Would you publicly shame yourself?0 -
Hedonist strikes again! (The double posting thing. Same thing happens to me-- all. the. time.)
