Neil sounded great in London last summer. His voice now vs. Dylan's now is beyond comparison. Dylan's is unlistenable, whereas Neil's has at least retained a good chunk of what it was.1998-06-30 Minneapolis

Neil sounds excellent as mentioned before. Great in an acoustic setting and with Crazy Horse.PJ_Soul said:
I have heard from here and there that Neil isn't really performing well anymore. That his vocals just don't sound good anymore (heard the same about Bob Dylan). Is this not true? I had heard the same being said kind of widely about Gordon Downie of the Tragically Hip, but then I saw them and it sounded great, so I don't know what to believe anymore. But it matters to me... because if Neil Young (or Bob Dylan for that matter) sound relatively bad now live, I'd rather not see them, because I don't want that kind of memory of them.... Any opinions from people who have seen NY in the past couple of years would be appreciated.lolobugg said:Anyone going to a show.
promise you, you won't regret it.
worth all the $$$$
Dylan is an acquired taste but I just saw him in Memphis and he has never sounded better.
He is playing smaller more intimate theaters and is playing the same set each night.
It has helped tremendously and was probably the best Dylan concert I have seen since 2002.livefootsteps.org/user/?usr=446

Wow, well that's not something I've heard about Dylan even once in recent years (that he sounded great). Yes, Dylan's voice isn't for everyone generally, but I've had massive Dylan fans say (regrettably) that he sounds terrible now compared to years gone by. They weren't folks who don't know what Dylan's unusual voice has always been. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. I guess I should've said "he hasn't sounded this good in years". If you check out the Dylan boards, this tour is getting great reviews. As far as the fans posting, these cats make the PJ freaks on this board look tame by comparison. He has lost some of that "gravel and sandpaper" and it is more nuanced now. I think the Sinatra cover record probably had a lot to do with it.PJ_Soul said:Wow, well that's not something I've heard about Dylan even once in recent years (that he sounded great). I think the Sinatra album is pretty awful, although I only gave it one quick listen. I can't remember if I didn't like because of how his voice sounds, or because I just didn't really like the treatment he gave the songs.... I should give it a second listen though, and see if my feelings about it change.lolobugg said:

If I had never seen Neil, Crazy Horse or CSNY before I would go just because I still can and because they're still doing it. (Well, CSNY may not ever perform again but you never know!)"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

I've heard two songs from the new record.
The first: "A Rock Star Bucks A Coffee Shop" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UC2DpGaykaI)
...almost too hokey to bear, but it's sort of catchy. Not something I'll love and you can tell by the smiles in the video, it's a little tongue-in-cheek too.
The second: "A New Day For Love"
...distractingly direct lyrics aside (which seems to be his taste these days), this is a great song. The first verse, his voice is a little off, but the chorus and guitars are great. I'm hoping most of the album is like this.1998-06-30 Minneapolis
