Is it just me, or is the cover for Fables a nod to the cover of The Dark Knight Returns, lol?F Me In The Brain said:Just read this...had never read any of the "Fables" work, thought it was a fun/quick read.
On to this anthology -- loved the first 2 stories...Joe Abercrombie and Gillian Flynn. I like almost every author in this and short stories are fun to read and they seem like they are fun for the authors to write. (And each of these stories is about....a Rogue...so that makes it fun in and of itself.)"The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

I'm reading the Oryx and Crake trilogy by Margaret Atwood (one of the best writers of all time of course). I have read Oryx and Crake and The Year of the Flood before, but not MaddAddam, so am just starting from the beginning. Really looking forward to finally reading the last one!
I just finished reading Children of Men. Much better than the movie... but i was disappointed that it ended the way it did (i guess I can't go into it since it would be a spoiler). Anyway, i think the book is actually meant to be a rather non-religious mirror of the story of the biblical flood.... which isn't too creative. Still, good book, mostly because of the writing style (even though it is a little unnecessarily pompous in its language at times).Post edited by PJ_Soul onWith all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Read this on the plane back from CA yesterday. I really like him and this was an OK wrap up to this series but he really should write longer books:The love he receives is the love that is saved0 -

I'm reading some POS by T Jefferson Parker called The Jaguar. I'm not into it at all....I should just bag it but I'll probably stick it out to the bitter end.

I agree it can be tedious at points (as well as extremely repetitive), but it is interesting nonetheless. I've only made it to Joshua so far (almost 200 pages out of just over a thousand in my copy), Moses just died.PJ_Soul said:

One of the most interesting things I've noted thus far is how ordinances were passed down directly from God (yes, I'm a believer, even if I no longer identify as Anglican, just Christian, lol), to be performed essentially until the end of time. As far as I know, blood sacrifice is no longer practiced by the 3 religions that grew out of this book (or the first part of it), yet there it is, right at the beginning: blood sacrifice to me (animals), or fall out of favour.
Also interesting to note that this far in, there's been mention of heaven, but no talk of the afterlife, which is a big part of the basis of the New Testament. I'll be interested to see when it makes its first appearance, lol.

I should try to read it again. I know when I go to church (progressive Episcopalian), the lessons always seem interesting - plus our priest is amazing. On Palm Sunday he read the Passion (Mark 14 - 15:47 - I had to look that up, btw) and it was un-tedious and very moving.DarthMaeglin said:
