This book is so fun. Unlike most books about the band, it's organized by topics instead of in chronological order and covers topics I wouldn't have even thought about. You can pick it up at any point and start reading. Mike Segretto really did his homework and manages to take you through all sorts of minutiae, like cataloging the different mixes and edits of songs or which are the must-have international releases. Plenty of stuff about the members individually and as bandmates and lots of discussion about the albums and many particular songs. Even with so much detail, it's not boring! The writing is witty and even though I'm a loooongtime fan, I'm still picking up new info.
(I also agree with him that not only is Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy their best compilation but the best name EVER for a greatest hits album.)

@ Who Princess -- as a devotee of the band, do you consider The Who to be R&B or Rock?
I am a longtime fan but nowhere near the level of PJ so there is so much I do not know...adding this to my list, thanks!

Time enough at last
An age made to read, then crack!
That's not fair at all

In spite of the iconic Maximum R&B poster, The Who are a rock band.
OTOH this is my license plate:)

^^ Awesome! Yeah I always thought it was odd to see them referenced that way in the many variations of that poster.
I look forward to reading the book! The love he receives is the love that is saved0 -

Just started this:
Was given 30+ books over the holidays. My 'to-read pile' was already outrageously long but what a great problem to have!
Question - do you read graphic novels in paper format or on a tablet? I have a nexus 7 I'm looking to get an app to read graphic novels on - but I've never read a graphic novel.

How many of you have walked around bookstores and became sad when you realized you didn't have enough time to read all of those books? I was sad once or twice.
I make an entry on my Amazon wish list every time I note a book I would like to read. (Many have been added from this thread and suggestions of others) I buy some throughout the year out of a compulsive need to buy books even though I have a big pile to read and then my family all picks books from my list for Christmas/Birthday gifts. My favorite thing about Amazon and this is sure to mean that by the time I retire I will be about 500 books behind....which is such an awesome thought to have.
This, btw, is my own personal idea of hell. Saw it as a kid and even then I would dream of reading books for a portion of every afternoon as a retired guy. Bet there are others here who recall this piece and the ultimate horror it made poor Henry Beebus realize.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAxARJyaTEA&feature=player_detailpage
No kidding. My idea of hell too, esp. now that I have to wear reading glasses.
I don't know if I already posted this, but I just read The Chain by Ted Genoways about the pork industry in the U.S. and Hormel. It's great. Although you'll never eat Spam again.0 -

Easy answer, I am one of the "feel of the book" tribe. I know, so 2010, right?

Not at all, I'm right there with you. I can't deny the convenience of e-readers while traveling, but at home I'll read a physical book over an ebook if I have it.
I just don't know about graphic novels.

I'm now addressing a lacuna in my reading: I'm enjoying for the first time a text that many of you probably read at school. I'm reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.0

Finished The New Watch yesterday; I enjoyed it but the translation from Russian was definitely not as good in this one as the last 4. It really seemed to lose the Russian-ness that came through strongly in the other books.my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf0
