This is the type of thing that sometimes moves me away from 10C. I bet they got 1000 new members yesterday and today. It's clearly a go and have a membership before we announce the tour.

They are definitely not the only one to do this. For example, DMB does this for warehouse, you can join during the presale and get tickets. Third Man you can join the vault any time and request tickets. Lots of bands do it.
...got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...

I think it's a good idea. Giving warning, however cryptic, allows people to join up before the pre-sale starts. That seems like a positive thing to me. Plus, it gives people a few more days to move funds around so they have enough on their credit cards to blow it all on tickets.

something tells me, if that's your situation, you should probably refrain from buying any tickets and pay off your debt...
but hey, what do I know...
I'm just the dumbass who apparently can't read well enough to decipher they played SA in 2011 and 2013 (I thought they had played there more recently than 2011, but when I glanced at past dates I didn't see it...)
sigh... another year, another snub.
enjoy your shows south america. your ridiculously large venues and sell outs will make it such that the band doesn't need to play other dates this year to meet their $ quota, and the rest of us will go without...

Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.

I like how the U2 fan club does it. They don't do a lot of senoirity. They simply divide it into two (or maybe 3). People who were already members before a day (usually before the announcement) and those who signed up after. That way the existing members get first shot at tickets.
With the 10c it does seem like a cash grab sometimes. They know for a lot of shows that the demand for tickets vastly outweights the supply, so signing up more people means more money for them (knowing that there's a high likelihood people won't get tickets). On the other hand when they places like Europe ticket demand is much lower, so I suppose none of it matters. The venues in S.A. are huge. I can't imagine there's anyone having fan club ticket issues down there.
For North American tours it would be nice if they had a membership requirement date in there (only because tickets are hard to come by).
There are membership requirement dates before getting tickets. Also how would someone not in the 10c know about the announcement on Friday since it was sent to 10c members? Sounds like a lot of whining from longtime members, the people who feel some sort of sense of entitlement over others. A fan is a fan, whether casual or not. Art is art, whether you liked it from the womb or last week.
Now my prediction! An extensive Canadian tour and South American Lollapalooza in the fall/winter. Vancouver, Calgary (a late addition) and London are the only Canadian cities PJ has played since 2011 I think. This is unacceptable and the band knows it. Look at the countries the band plays, they generally align with their political/environmental views. The boys are fond of Canada, have many friends here. Bring it!!! Also, I want South America in the fall because I am ready to go!!! Lol
I agree... I wish they'd play Lima though... I really want to go to Machu Pichu; combining that with a PJ show might actually outweigh last year's PJ + Australian Open...
Or maybe they'll play Paris in a 2 1/2 months

That Costa Rica date would be perfect. It's the only show my wife and I would be able to make since we have a ton of Jet Blue points. Brazil would be awesome, but I just can't swing that air fair this year. Cost Rica and maybe a festival show in the States and I'll be happy.
Can't see them making such a dramatic buildup for just 6 or 7 SA dates... The Facebook posts at the same time 2 days in a row and the message in the email makes me think that there is more that is going to be announced.

Wow, lol! Yeah, of course it's a bad idea to be going to concerts when you have to hurry up and get enough money on your maxed credit cards to buy tix, hahaha. But I know that there are plenty of fans who do it like that just the same, so I figure it's good that they have the opportunity, lol. I wouldn't personally want to go to a PJ show in SA - I really love a rowdy pit, but the SA crowds still look too intense and tight to me. They appear really hot and unpleasant for my taste - it looks like the third circle of hell, actually. .... Not that I wouldn't give it a shot anyway if I could get there for free.

The newsletter is open to public viewing once it's released. It's not like only members can find out what's in it. This is just how bands get the word out. They drop hints, and create a buzz. Build anticipation - it makes the tickets seem more appealing once they're on sale. Pretty standard tactic.

Shaping up for 2011 revisit: Depends on your whether you think this fall is PJ25 or next year, but Kick off tour w/ 2-day event in September. Not a festival, maybe alpine (have seen how September looks for availability) maybe 2 nights at MSG (No logic other geographical), Chicago, maybe the Gorge. Follow this with 8-10 shows for it most loyal fan base (Canada; no, not one of them), transport the gear head south of the border for 8-10 (pretty much 100% as may outside reports have been posted; not one of them either). These two bases go nuts and would have plenty of time to make plans for flights, tix, etc. Has to be more than just a SA and Canada tour announcement. No offense to my neighbors to the North and South. Had a few beers with you both at several shows, but didn't do this when they announced Europe or Australia, or the SA tour in 2013. Hope you guys get a nice run of shows, you deserve it.
So the local radio stations in Philly (104.5 and 93.3) have been hinting at a South America tour and a small North America tour. That'd be fucking awesome if we get a US tour too but I have my doubts.
Seriously doubting its not just a south american tour announcement. Got to be something to do with pj25 as well. 25 is a bigger anniversary then 20 and look what they did for pj20. Best check my passport is up to date so I can fly over from australia to get amongst it
