Good God, Play Oceans More!

It is one of your best tracks, and as of this post, it has been played a mere 81 times in 24 years! Even Flow, by comparison(their most played song) has been played 775 times! Nearly TEN times more (how ironic). Backspacer tracks have been played more! Anyone know any legit reason they don't play it more than they do?

I saw it in 2013 as an opener... in all honesty, it wasn't exactly spectacular. It was cool, but that's about it.... better than Pendulum as an opener though, IMHO. (I really like Pendulum - I just think it's a horrible opener).

Ed can't sing this one very well. The Oooooo part is just painful to hear. Most of us can hear it. Time to retire this one, imo.

I figured it may be in part due to the difficult pitch of the song, so then tune everything down a half step.

I agree. It sounds kind of weird live. Even a bit off key. There is a reason they hardly ever play it.

  • For me..sadly..there is a long list of songs I have not heard live. Quite a few I'd really like to hear. Oceans is number one on that list. I've missed it by one or two nights two times so far. I can see it being difficult as a live song...especially for Ed. Nonetheless...if I never get to hear it live I'll consider it the single biggest missing disappointment from a live musical perspective. (Throw in the missing/not available posters from two of the shows I saw in 2000 and I'm pretty darn depressed right this moment...)

Of course I hope that people who want to hear it get to hear it. However, I've been "lucky" to a couple times and I'm sorry to say, it was painful to listen to. I was almost nervous hearing him try to get through it. I'd rather it replaced with something he can sing better.

    Oceans sounded excellent in 98.
maybe I will rethink requesting it based on the comments.

Well, i am guessing your theory has to do with who he said at unplugged he wrote the song about? Who cares. I have songs written about past loves, painful ones at that, that i still play. for me at least, those somgs have become more about who i was at the time, rather than who she was.

If that was the reason it isnt played often, i would think it would be outright retired. But hey, i think my love for the song stems from bass being my main instrument. Such a goegeous bassline.
