even listening to the 92 boots you can tell Ed struggles with this one. Look no further than the unplugged version.

Haha, maybe we've uncovered the real reason they never released the oceans video back then. He didn't want to sing it more to promote it.
  • I love the way Ed sings oceans then and now. The effortless purity of youth (assisted by production) in the studio version and all of the variations that he's had over the years singing it live are all beautiful to me. It irks me a little when people comment that Ed struggles with it. That's just the nature of singing and aging. The art is in the way he modifies the song in the live setting to keep it real and express the sentiment of the song. It makes it feel fresh and organic. I'm really hoping to hear it someday. Thx paulonious for reminding me how much I love this song.

  • I have a theory as to why, but I'm leaving it there.

Well, i am guessing your theory has to do with who he said at unplugged he wrote the song about? Who cares. I have songs written about past loves, painful ones at that, that i still play. for me at least, those somgs have become more about who i was at the time, rather than who she was.

If that was the reason it isnt played often, i would think it would be outright retired. But hey, i think my love for the song stems from bass being my main instrument. Such a goegeous bassline.

    Wrong.

Was the first song I ever heard at my 1st show, Wembley back in 1996. It has a majestic beauty, but I'd agree that Ed has always struggled with this one. Unplugged sound check for example...

I agree! There's no need for singing along at a live show when lip-synching feels just as good.

LOL was it getting confusing? I emailed 10c and asked them to combine my old profile with my new, and they said that was impossible, so I just asked them to change my name, which they did.

Well it wasn't confusing once I found out who Palonious was, lol, but I just think this name suits you much better! ;)

Ed can't sing this one very well. The Oooooo part is just painful to hear. Most of us can hear it. Time to retire this one, imo.

I respect your opinion but I have to disagree. I think they have maybe struggled with it in the past but they've got it down now as far as I'm concerned. Listen to the Detroit 2014 bootleg. IMHO it's fantastic. Ed sang the shit out of Oceans. My favorite song of that show. Wish they would play it more.
