Where would you put Eddie Vedder on a list of Top 20 Rock Lead Vocalists?

Although Ed is my personal favorite, its hard for me to see him above Freddie Mercury
and Mick Jagger.0 -
at least he's thereI miss igotid880

I would put him in the Top 20 (definitely his vocals on albums from 1991 - 1995). He isn't #2 though.
Bono is missing from the list and that makes no sense at all. He should be top #3. In my opinion.0 -
Are we talking vocalist or frontman?I miss igotid880

Agree! This list really is missing some names. Eddie Vedder and Bono are my favorite vocalists.bootlegger10 said:I would put him in the Top 20 (definitely his vocals on albums from 1991 - 1995). He isn't #2 though.

Maybe not a polished singer like some of the others, but originality and raw power puts him in the top five for me.0

In my opinion...
Any list of the Greatest Rock Lead Vocalists of All Time,
that doesn't include Tina Turner is flawed!!!
I would also have to argue that Michael Stipe, Ann Wilson & James Taylor
should be included as well!'96: Seattle: Key Arena

That's not a bad group of singers but I don't agree with the order. Freddie Mercury should be number 2! Layne Staley and Maynard should be above Kurt Cobain.
I'd still have Eddie in top 5 maybe top 10.0 -
I am okay with 1 & 2 but beyond that it gets weird. I would not put Ozzy Osbourne anywhere on the list. I think his voice is awful. I would move Chris Cornell up. I agree with Dave on Michael Stipe. Love EV but I think that there are a few that should go above. Where's Bruce Dickinson?!Post edited by deadendp on2014: Cincinnati

Personally, I am not a fan of Mick. But his freedom and uninhibited creativity made it possibleigotid88 said:

for soooo many who came behind him. Both tore down so many racial and sexual walls.
I just have to give Mick his due, but will entirely agree that I choose Ed every time vocally.
Its also difficult for me to NOT have Freddie at number 1, even though I like Zeps music better.
I think Plant would take the back seat to Freddie, I don't believe Freddie could allow
himself to ride behind Plant! End of the day, the cat is sickeningly talented...0 -

I'd personally put him at 3, under Robert Plant and Paul McCartney.
YES to this! Should have been included. Underrated when it comes to vocalists out there, but I think his voice is near flawless. In the same vein, Paul Simon. Similarly flawless voice!derbydave said:

First of all I think Plant deserves the #1 spot. Not sure if I would put EV at no 2, but def top 5. And I don't agree with Kurt C so far down on the list, I think he deserves a higher spot.Kool Kat Club 1992, Moderna museet 1992, Globen 2012, Friends arena 20140

Ah, Freddie at #7 is all I need to see to know this list is SHIT.0

I just don´t get this Kurt C. hype. I mean yes it was great at the time but why does he deserve a higher spot now? For his fantastic voice or his long time as lead-vocalist?bluegrace said:First of all I think Plant deserves the #1 spot. Not sure if I would put EV at no 2, but def top 5. Sorry, but you can not compare him with the other great vocalists who are around since decades.
And it should has nothing to do with personal taste in music.
Where is Bruce?0 -
Not that it matters but my top 5...
1. Freddie Mercury
2. Roger Daultry
3. Eddie Vedder
4. Robert Plant
5. Chris Cornell0 -
Ed won't be #1 but he should be in the top 10 for sure. Early days his persona was way to intense & he is not say a performer such as Jagger or Mercury but if there was a top 10 for the most the important front man with everything he does off the stage as well as on it & his songwriting he would be #1.Eastern Creek 95,Syd 1 98,Bris 2 98, Syd 1&2 03, Reading Fest 06, Bris 1 06, London 09, Hyde Park 10, Gold Coast BDO 14 Budapest 22 Krakow 22 Amsterdam 22 St Paul 1&2 23 Chicago 1&2 23 Chicago 1&2 24 New York 1 24 Philly 1&2 24 Boston 1&2 24 Gold Coast 24 Melbourne 1 24 Sydney 1&2 240

No Josh Homme?Flanders0

im quite happy to see him at #20

1. Mick Jagger (because of longevity, songwriting--so many great albums, the British invasion factor, stage presence and showmanship, and a voice that is unique as it is impressive)
And then everyone else and I wouldn't argue against Ed being in the 2 spot.

I'd make a good case for Joe Cocker to be on that list along with many other names mentioned here. I don't know, man. PJ is my favorite band of all time, but I don't know if I could even put Ed in the "Top 20 Rock Lead Vocalists of All Time."Star Lake 00 / Pittsburgh 03 / State College 03 / Bristow 03 / Cleveland 06 / Camden II 06 / DC 08 / Pittsburgh 13 / Baltimore 13 / Charlottesville 13 / Cincinnati 14 / St. Paul 14 / Hampton 16 / Wrigley I 16 / Wrigley II 16 / Baltimore 20 / Camden 22 / Baltimore 24 / Raleigh I 25 / Raleigh II 25 / Pittsburgh I 250

ANOTHER great one mentioned here...the fact that the only woman on the list is Stevie Nicks says a lot about the quality of the list!!HesCalledDyer said:I'd make a good case for Joe Cocker to be on that list along with many other names mentioned here.
