Oh man, there are so many great memories from that show! I've watched it from the get go-- even now days but I'm almost always disappointed when I watch SNL anymore. I probably shouldn't say that on a thread celebrating the 40 year anniversary but I guess someone had to do it, haha! I would love nothing more than to see that show revived to the level it once was.

About every 5 years snl goes through a change for the positive. 88-96 was great. Then blah until 2000. Good until about 2005 or 6. Since.....it's been kind of stale.
Forgive me if my dates are off. You get the point.
What a great show. Caught it online last night finally. Who in gods name picked the musical guests????????? Miley was actually ok but after all the iconic musicians that have performed on SNL they settled on that duo of Miley and Kanye.

I think they should've had a few big time sponsors and filled the breaks with SNL commercials.
Californians was way too long, not really all that funny to begin with. Melissa McCarthy as Matt Foley was an abomination. Just awful and sooooo forced. Takes more than a fatty to fill those shoes. Should've let his classic sketches stand on their own during the classic clips. Too much of a focus on recent cast members too. Hader, Wiig, Rudolph all pretty well suck.
All the true classics brought back some good memories and it supplied a lot of laughs.
I think they should've had a couple musical mashups highlighting some notable performances would've worked pretty well with the way the rest of the show was done.

I think Hader was one of the greatest all-time cast members. Could lead the sketch or bring something in a supporting role. So I disagree there but I've always disliked Rudolph. Wiig can be good depending on the character. Like....there's talent there....but it seems like it's never used correctly. Also, I was shocked to not see Ferrell and Oteri as the cheerleaders.
Wiig, McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon as the....ahem..."Ghostbusters" can get ugly. I really like McKinnon. And Wiig, if she plays the "straight-man", might be okay. But McCarthy and Jones are going to be loathsome. Jones is beyond awful. It's just Tracy Morgan's "loud black person" routine...but uglier.
I really like the Martin Short Maya Rudolph skit. I had never seen a Californians skit before. It was ok. Great show overall trying to cram 40 years into 3-1/2 hours.
Alright, alright, alright!

I saw the re-run last Friday ... how is Kanye West a star? I don't think I've ever heard a song, but his two backup singers made him to be a fraud. Dude can't sing.

I watched my DVR of the show this w/e with my wife. We laughed at a lot of it and fast forwarded through some of the stuff. Not one second of that assplug Kanye's performance was watched. Laughed at some of the comments here....Chevy Chase did look like death....Celebrity Jeopardy, as always, was amazing. Californians was long but pretty funny...the worst part (I feel bad just typing this) was Paul McBeatleGodliness singing. Holy shit it was awful. Not as bad as someone who cannot sing (like if I tried it) but worse than pretty much anyone that has a good voice. Was some stuff I didn't know as I have not watched as much of years 30-40 as I did 10-30....and I knew all of the classic sketches from 1-10 from all of the other specials.
I laughed hysterically at Bloated Dan Akroyd doing Bass-O-Matic and my wife thought it was stupid.

After years of searching the internet, I've finally found my favorite all-time SNL sketch. I've had an mp3 of this for years but finally someone has uploaded the video. It's so great. I can't imagine why SNL doesn't have it up on Yahoo or their app. But whatever, here it is: Jerry Seinfeld hosting "Stand-Up And Win!"
Anyone have a link to the one where David Spade was Adam Sandler's girlfriend? I think his name was Todd and he was cheating on him/her? Chris Farley may have been in the skit, too.
