I'm sure more will come out. The one thing that we do know is that he had mental issues and he was licensed to carry a gun.

I think a search of your social media accounts should be a legal requirement in order to have a license to purchase a firearm.

That would be great but it will never ever happen , can you imagine how many nut jobs are out there with permits to carry that are just like this asswipe .....

When you say mental issues, what do you mean? Any links in particular?

I'm not asking to challenge you on this. It just disturbs me that whenever anyone commits a violent crime the media immediately mentions mental illness, thus further demonizing those who actually have mental illnesses. The vast majority of violence is not perpetrated by those with mental illness.

    Muslim man kills secular Westerners:
    - Terrorist conspiracy seeking to undermine Western freedoms and legitimacy
    - Muslims need to condemn this terrorist and all terrorism, and say "Not in our name"
    - Islam has a problem with violence that needs to be addressed by its "moderate" adherents

    White man kills Muslims:
    - Lone gunman with "mental issues" acting in a completely isolated incident
    - White people have nothing to condemn or apologize for, only maybe say how sad it is
    - What Islamophobia/culture of hate/media bias/armies/drones?

But, it wasn't isolated. Much concern for his actions before this, as has been documented.

Apologies if I'm mistaken, but it seems as if you're slicing it into a black/white thing. Not sure it is here. The guy definitely had issues - whether mental or otherwise, I certainly don't know.

It's gonna come out soon enough, hopefully. Saw an interview with the father of the slain daughters, he made it pretty clear the guy had issues with them being Muslim. He was being interviewed on al sharptons show at 6:00pm today.

I don't doubt he had issues with Muslims, but I think (only from what I've read thus far) he had issues with a shitload of things and people.

My heart goes out to the father of those girls, and the families who loved them and the husband of the one who was also killed. The lives lost (and for what?) are mourned by this white(ish) woman. My sentiments are genuine and hopefully not dismissed.

If so, so be it. Looking beyond religion, skin color, and on and on...it goes all ways.

If the Obama Administration can label the Ft. Hood shooting an act of "workplace violence" or the Paris kosher market shootings a "random act of violence" then I'm not sure how they can call this a hate crime.

That being said it looks like hate crime by a militant atheist so far. The parking dispute was probably just the initiator. I don't believe if the victims were white he would have been so quick to pull the trigger.

Well that's great because we all know that al sharptons not known for infusing race into anything unjust.

sidenote - it would be funny to watch Brian Williams interview this al guy.

"THIS is what lowlife scum looks like Mr. McCain. You'd do well to take a good look and then follow with a look in the mirror...assuming you have a reflection at all!"

Rgambs...do you think McCain wouldn't consider the shooter to be a lowlife scum? Of course he would. Everyone would. This guy will be tried, convicted and likely sentenced to death. A majority of americans will be ok with that.

I don't give a fuck what al sharpton said. I said I saw the father discussing some things on sharptons show. He made statements. Not so much question/answer.

I see a problem in a Senator who places people who protest murderers near the same level as murderers themselves.

Do you think he puts this murderer at or near the same level as those protesters? Of course he doesn't. For you to insert John McCain into this thread with a "look in the mirror" as if he bears some kind of culpability is completely wrong. Hate on McCain for his comments if you want but to merge the two threads into some kind of message seems off base to me.

I brought McCain into this thread when somebody called the perpetrator scum. It reminded me of one of our best warmongers and the question I asked, which none of the McCain supporters answered: If Code Pink are lowlife scum, what does that make this guy? What's worse than scum? What's worse than lowlife? Nolife?
Maybe it is a little off-base. Oh well, shit happens.
"Do you think he puts this murderer at or near the same level as those protesters?"
Honestly, given the history of this man, I doubt he does put them at the same level. He might just put the shooter ABOVE the Code Pinkers. He has a strong connection to Kissinger and is heavily invested (emotionally and fiscally) in keeping the war machine in the murder business, making Code Pink a direct enemy. In contrast, he has no direct connection to the Chapel Hill event and the man shamelessly, even gladly, fronts a party that is known to promote Islamaphobia and campaings for continual war in the Middle East.

Good post RGambs. I wonder what all these McCain supporters would think of him if they new what role he and his father played in the uss Liberty attack investigation. I wonder who they'd call scum then.

I am not sure I would call myself a McCain supporter and I also believe this murder was likely a hate crime. I just don't think the two issues are remotely linked. Again to suggest McCain would place this murderer and the protester near each other on the "scum scale" just seems wrong to me but again, I'm not in charge around here.

Fanaticism. I'm thinking it may be the greatest threat to peace in the world on all levels, from individual to local to regional to national to global (maybe oil greed wins... close call).

There is a case in the courts from our small city of Victoria, of all places, that puts a twist in these questions.

A couple - Canadians, white, and apparently recent converts to Islam - are on trial for an alleged plot to plant bombs at the provincial legislature on Canada Day (July 1). They allegedly planned to use bombs similar to those of the Boston Marathon bombing, but wanted a "higher body count".

Testimony has revealed that both were prior heroin addicts, on methadone at the time of their plotting. The more that comes out about them, the more they seem to be lost souls looking for a place to belong and finding a terrible way to do so.

How much does it matter to us that they are white? How much does it matter to us that they are not immigrants? How much do the addictions and possible mental health (there's that term again) issues matter in this?

Before people jump all over this - no, I'm not excusing/condoning any of this; these are just issues I find interesting.

Here are the groups the murderer liked on his personal facebook page:

Huffington Post, Rachel Maddow, the Southern Poverty Law Center, Freedom from Religion Foundation, Bill Nye “The Science Guy,” Neil deGrasse Tyson, gay marriage groups, and a host of anti-conservative/Tea Party pages.

It looks like we have a progressive madman

Meanwhile in Houston Muslim school burns. Comments to this story include "let it burn" "They must of left beheading machine on" etc etc. There is a growing festering anti Muslim movement happening and doesn't look good.
