I love this one but am always partial to Tyler on that album. I caught them back sometime around 1996 opening for White Zombie and left even more impressed than before with them. That was such an under rated record.the tiki bomb said:Oh yeah, and the greatest song of the 90s?

I don't think anyone is arguing the the SPs weren't one of the top bands of the 90s.
I don't even know how the "top 10 songs of the 90s " thing factors in, lol. That lost is different for everyone. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0 -

Speaking competitively, Smashing Pumpkins has put out two great albums (Gish and Siamese Dream). But for Billy Corgan to position his band (which is not really a band since it was always all about him) somehow in the same realm as Nirvana is a joke. Give me a fucking break dude -- you will never be at the level. Nirvana changed the game. SP did not. So just stop.
And for him to somehow say Pearl Jam doesn't have "the songs" compared to SP-- again what a joke. Let's break the news to you, the reason why Pearl Jam sells out arenas (and SP hasn't since the 90s) is exactly because Pearl Jam has the songs. Ten, VS., Vitalogy, No Code, Yield -- this is PJ's catalogue just in the 90s and SP cannot touch it. Nope -- never.
Oh and the other reason PJ's sell out arenas is because they are phenomenal live... I've seen them 20 times and I hope to see them 20 more. The last two times I saw SP live (in 1994 in NYC and 1996 in SF) they sucked -- a complete train wreck.
Quality sells. Shit doesn't.
On a final note, even with Eddie Vedder's voice in a lesser state these days, Billy Corgan's voice will never, ever touch Eddie Vedder's. Another reason why SP/BC are not as good as Pearl Jam: They have more natural talent where it counts.
With that, Gish was great. Same for Siamese Dream. Beyond that -- SP is boring as shit (other than "1979").
