Obviously some mild racism going on- and that sucks- but what I really find disturbing is seeing an email conversation between two people going public. Shit man, if my emails were made public I'd be fuckin' pissed! Am I missing something here?

Is it mildly racist though? I don't see anywhere where they are saying that they are better than Barack Obama or that Barack should be a slave or any thing like that. They are just making a joke in a private email. I doubt there was even a hint of ill will intended. I wouldn't be surprised if they were forced to resign in this zero tolerance country where you can't say anything anymore that remotely could offend anyone. This is now a country where you contribute money to the wrong party and you could lose your job (I.e., Mozilla).

Free speech is dead and the right to privacy is dead too. We think we have advanced but we are slaves to our machines.

Is it mildly racist? Within the context of the quote, it's hard to say. Sends up some red flags though.

Free speech dead? That's such a difficult topic. I'm not for censorship but on the other hand there's that yelling "fire' in a crowded theater thing.

Right to privacy dead? Sure seems that way.

Slaves to our machines? For sure. I think you could also add "addicted to our machines" to that.

Do I like your response? Yes.

Maybe free speech isn't dead (as in the government will jail you), but the fear of losing a sale if a customer is a whiny little child is making it more and more likely that you may be out of a job. I think the CEO of Mozilla would say free speech is a myth when he lost his job for donating to a special interest group.

If I make a joke that Asians are bad drivers, it doesn't mean I think they are bad drivers. It is a joke about a stereotype. It doesn't make me racist. It means nothing more than a joke. I shouldn't have to worry about losing my job if some Asian social group wants to boycott my employer. That is a sucky world to live in. I understand you can't just walk around saying whatever the hell you want with no repercussions, but these were private emails and I think we all say stupid shit around our friends about every subject under the sun to get a laugh that we wouldn't say if on TV or the radio.
