All I am Saying is (and to quote the late Kurt Cobain) "I like to feel prejudice towards people who are prejudice"
If one doesn't think they are in some way racist, then they are only lying to themselves.
Like I said, We are all racist just that some are hateful while others like myself are not.
If we are all racists and you accept the dictionary definition then is it true we all contribute to this?:
: poor treatment of or violence against people because of their race
: the belief that some races of people are better than others
I wonder if you mean "biased" as opposed to "racist"? For example, I came up with a motto for my book business:
"Quality used books for the discriminating reader."
I like and carry quality used books, therefor I am discriminate based on a bias. That does not make me a racist.
Sorry but I'm not going along with the idea that we are all racists. Not according to the Webster definition of the term. I do not believe for a second that all of us treat other races poorly or think our race is better than another. A shitload of people do believe that, for sure. But everyone does? No way. We all have biases about things, sure. But all are racist? No way.
Bias/racist: I think it is important to be discriminating and accurate in our use of words .

Absolutely Brian, bias is the proper word. Precision of language. There is a young adult novel called the Giver that was just made into a movie aand they did really well, check it out if your browsing a movie to watch.
Is the following an email intercept between two Koch VP's or two of liberal Hollywood elites?
....
“What should I ask the president at this stupid Jeffrey breakfast?” Pascal inquired of Rudin. “Would he like to finance some movies,” Rudin suggested. “I doubt it,” Pascal replied. “Should I ask him if he liked DJANGO?” “12 YEARS,” Rudin said. “Or the butler. Or think like a man?” responded Pascal, maintaining the trend of only naming movies with race themes or black casts. “Ride-along,” countered Rudin. “I bet he likes Kevin Hart.” The irony of the exchange is that Pascal — like much of Hollywood’s elite — is a major Obama donor. In particular, the Sony executive donated $5,000 to the president’s campaign for reelection in 2012 in addition to giving $30,800 to the Democratic National Committee.

Obviously some mild racism going on- and that sucks- but what I really find disturbing is seeing an email conversation between two people going public. Shit man, if my emails were made public I'd be fuckin' pissed! Am I missing something here?

I read the book in middle school so it was nice seeing it made into a movie. Plus im asucker for the marble-mouth genius of Jeff Bridges.

Is it mildly racist though? I don't see anywhere where they are saying that they are better than Barack Obama or that Barack should be a slave or any thing like that. They are just making a joke in a private email. I doubt there was even a hint of ill will intended. I wouldn't be surprised if they were forced to resign in this zero tolerance country where you can't say anything anymore that remotely could offend anyone. This is now a country where you contribute money to the wrong party and you could lose your job (I.e., Mozilla).
Free speech is dead and the right to privacy is dead too. We think we have advanced but we are slaves to our machines.

Free speech is alive and well and loud - thankfully so - but the repercussions? The times, once again, are a changing.
Right to privacy, I think the parameters of those rights have begun to shimmer and shrink. Definitely morphed.
Out in public, you're subjected to (or the subject of) people's nosiness, vicariousness, via their phones, via cameras installed on streets, storefronts, homes.
Your last comment? I believe for the most part, you're right on. Gotta give this one a bit more thought though.

Is it mildly racist? Within the context of the quote, it's hard to say. Sends up some red flags though.
Free speech dead? That's such a difficult topic. I'm not for censorship but on the other hand there's that yelling "fire' in a crowded theater thing.
Right to privacy dead? Sure seems that way.
Slaves to our machines? For sure. I think you could also add "addicted to our machines" to that.

Maybe free speech isn't dead (as in the government will jail you), but the fear of losing a sale if a customer is a whiny little child is making it more and more likely that you may be out of a job. I think the CEO of Mozilla would say free speech is a myth when he lost his job for donating to a special interest group.
If I make a joke that Asians are bad drivers, it doesn't mean I think they are bad drivers. It is a joke about a stereotype. It doesn't make me racist. It means nothing more than a joke. I shouldn't have to worry about losing my job if some Asian social group wants to boycott my employer. That is a sucky world to live in. I understand you can't just walk around saying whatever the hell you want with no repercussions, but these were private emails and I think we all say stupid shit around our friends about every subject under the sun to get a laugh that we wouldn't say if on TV or the radio.

Good points, bootlegger. :-)
The part about saying Japanese are bad drivers reminds me of an incident a long time ago. I was on campus at San Francisco State and Scott McKenzie- the guy that did that song about "if you're going to San Francisco/ be sure to wear flowers in your hair"- was part of an on-campus benefit gig protesting the war in Viet Nam. At one point in the middle of his set, McKenzie made a joke in which was trying to use sarcasm. He said something about "them slanty eyed people" and IMMEDIATELY some of the organizers- these big muscular bouncer looking dudes- rushed the stage yelling at him and scared that living shit out of the poor guy. He was really shaken up and kept pleading with them saying, "It was just a joke! I'm on your side!" They told him not to ever say that shit even if he was kidding. That was one scary scene. I really thought they were going to kill that guy.
