No worries Jose.I also can't stand all the violence.Im also equally sick of all the protesting and cop bashing.IMO a lot of kids and young people are protesting just to be part of something and have no idea what racial profiling or true police harassment is(Yes,I'm talking about the affluent white college kids). Its doing more harm then good, and will have no net gain in the long term.josevolution said:
Hey ok stupid was not the correct wording i apologize but to ask if folks in that community might want to protest is the last thing on people s minds at this time .....i myself do appreciate what the police & all 1st responders do every day .....rr165892 said:It's my opinion. And after nearly 10 police bashing threads on these boards I think it's important to note that these cops are always there for us. But we don't appreciate them until we need them and that is point I was trying to make .But thanks for calling it stupid Jose.Much appreciated.
I don't take the school shooting thing lightly. My family was personally impacted by it a few weeks back with the FSU shooting. My daughters best friend walked out of the library 5 min before the shootings ,a neighbor kid was in the library under a table, and my 23 yr old son who had been studying at the library every night that week at that same time as the shooting ,chose on that evening ,for whatever reason to give it a rest and head home.We as parents worried because he wasn't answering his phone until the following morning so it was a scary few hours. So yeah I get it.Post edited by rr165892 on0 -

Dont doubt and bash people who put themselves in the path of pepper spray and police records to stand against injustice! If affluent white college kids hadn't protested the Vietnam war they were mostly exempt from, we might still be in those jungles (exaggerated of course)rr165892 said:

Maybe I'm just getting older and more synical.Of course protesting has its place.Vietnam was a great example.Civil Rights,Women's right to choose,Climate change. All good causes and reasons and have had profound impact on history. And right to assemble and freedom of speech are most certainly super important liberties people should embrace. Its not the act I guess I'm questioning or mocking it's the subject Gambs.rgambs said:

I just don't agree.
And while I do understand that some communities deal with issues of this nature and perceive it as more widespread, and that is not to minimize its impact on those people ,I believe the vast majority of law enforcement are very good and are professional and would risk their own lives for the same knuckleheads who are protesting.
Are they trying to rehash the 60-70s as far as race relations? Please let's move past that. Its so thirty years ago.Just ask our 2 term Black president,Attorney General,2 of the most recent secretary of states,Many buisness tycoons,Entertainment figures and just mainstream society in general.Lets just put that race card back in our pocket and get real. Are there still narrow minded people?Sure but this isn't Alabama in the 60s.Why are some creating a problem that Dosent exist?
And let's flip it around.I have been a victim. We have a ring of dirt bag piece of shit robbers called the "Pillow Case Bandits" in our area. They target affluent mostly white neighborhoods and they are all black. When my house got robbed and my dogs kicked and left to run free and my personal items pillaged and stolen.I was one of 6 homes that got hit that day.I wasn't out picketing that all criminals are black and I'm being targeted because im white."Lets stop the black on white crime".
So let's just stop this one sided bullshit.I got robbed by a criminal.I don't care what color he was.His actions make him a douche bag not his skin color.
If the black community wants to try to make a real difference with unfair policing maybe they should first take a look at WHY so many police are needed in their neighborhoods. What can they do as a community to offset this before it is an issue. What is the root cause?0 -
I think protesting still has it's place but I also think that it is important to use what ever is available- especially as the dissemination of information has become so widespread. In "Wrenched", a recent documentary film that is mostly about Edward Abbey and the early radical environmental movement , a least a few times the idea of using words as activism is mentioned. I think it was Foreman who said that about half way through. At the end of the film, Terry Tempest Williams recalls the time she went with a protest group into a desert area where nukes had been tested many years previous. Before being allowed in, she is searched by the authorities. Stuffed in her sock is a small note pad and pen. The agent finds them and asks Williams, "What are these?" Williams looks the agent straight in the eye and replies, "Weapons". She is allowed to pass.rr165892 said:

Thank you and I agree. Now if we could narrow in on what a "right cause "to protest is.Maybe that's a whole new thread.josevolution said:
