I wouldn't be thinking to myself this is a problem that's just going to go away.

    This has become situation stupid.

But we all know this would never have happened if every school employee was armed. And there was a squad of militarily equipped police guarding all the halls and all the classrooms and every place a student might be found.

You know, I was just thinking with all of the threads about the police, and how the odds of their getting shot or killed are so high on a daily basis. Now we have to add students and school faculty to the mix?

Stupid, yes...and ridiculously sad too. Agreed, this isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Shooters on the Run.Im sure we will get full OJ coverage this evening on all the news networks.
This has been happening to often and I fear days of more tightened security on campuses are coming soon.
Side note.I wonder if the members of the community where the shooting happened are feeling like they are in the mood to protest tonight while a shooter is on the loose,or if they are going to let these brave men and women do their job.I have a feeling they love them some cops tonight.Go figure.

Hands up, don't shoot. Unless you see the suspect in my yard!

Cal,not to sidetrack but I never really pay attention to people's concert notes at the bottom. But I just noticed You were at the Vote For Change show at the Rodeo grounds in Kissimmee.I had tix but my kid who was like 13-14 at the time had a last minute travel Hockey tournament pop up and we had to fly up to Boston. My bro got my tix and said it was a great show.He did at least she'll out 30 ducketts for a blue fitted PJ baseball cap which is still in rotation 10 years later.I regretted not going as another family said my kid coulda flew up with them(after we arrived).I also still have that horrible skinny little poster.

I'd say the issue is much deeper than the weapon of choice. What propels a person - let alone if this was a kid - to get to such a point of violence?

  • Several of these mass shootings has taken place in the great northwest in the past few years. Just a random observation.

I agree it's not about the weapons but to try to tie this in with the anti police protest that are happening is stupid ....

It's my opinion. And after nearly 10 police bashing threads on these boards I think it's important to note that these cops are always there for us. But we don't appreciate them until we need them and that is point I was trying to make .But thanks for calling it stupid Jose.Much appreciated.

No worries Jose.I also can't stand all the violence.Im also equally sick of all the protesting and cop bashing.IMO a lot of kids and young people are protesting just to be part of something and have no idea what racial profiling or true police harassment is(Yes,I'm talking about the affluent white college kids). Its doing more harm then good, and will have no net gain in the long term.
I don't take the school shooting thing lightly. My family was personally impacted by it a few weeks back with the FSU shooting. My daughters best friend walked out of the library 5 min before the shootings ,a neighbor kid was in the library under a table, and my 23 yr old son who had been studying at the library every night that week at that same time as the shooting ,chose on that evening ,for whatever reason to give it a rest and head home.We as parents worried because he wasn't answering his phone until the following morning so it was a scary few hours. So yeah I get it.

Dont doubt and bash people who put themselves in the path of pepper spray and police records to stand against injustice! If affluent white college kids hadn't protested the Vietnam war they were mostly exempt from, we might still be in those jungles (exaggerated of course)
Civil disobedience is the lifeblood of democracy, and the claim that they are doing more harm than good is an old one that is handed down from the power each time waves of protests occur.

Maybe I'm just getting older and more synical.Of course protesting has its place.Vietnam was a great example.Civil Rights,Women's right to choose,Climate change. All good causes and reasons and have had profound impact on history. And right to assemble and freedom of speech are most certainly super important liberties people should embrace. Its not the act I guess I'm questioning or mocking it's the subject Gambs.
    I just don't agree.
And while I do understand that some communities deal with issues of this nature and perceive it as more widespread, and that is not to minimize its impact on those people ,I believe the vast majority of law enforcement are very good and are professional and would risk their own lives for the same knuckleheads who are protesting.
Are they trying to rehash the 60-70s as far as race relations? Please let's move past that. Its so thirty years ago.Just ask our 2 term Black president,Attorney General,2 of the most recent secretary of states,Many buisness tycoons,Entertainment figures and just mainstream society in general.Lets just put that race card back in our pocket and get real. Are there still narrow minded people?Sure but this isn't Alabama in the 60s.Why are some creating a problem that Dosent exist?
And let's flip it around.I have been a victim. We have a ring of dirt bag piece of shit robbers called the "Pillow Case Bandits" in our area. They target affluent mostly white neighborhoods and they are all black. When my house got robbed and my dogs kicked and left to run free and my personal items pillaged and stolen.I was one of 6 homes that got hit that day.I wasn't out picketing that all criminals are black and I'm being targeted because im white."Lets stop the black on white crime".
So let's just stop this one sided bullshit.I got robbed by a criminal.I don't care what color he was.His actions make him a douche bag not his skin color.
If the black community wants to try to make a real difference with unfair policing maybe they should first take a look at WHY so many police are needed in their neighborhoods. What can they do as a community to offset this before it is an issue. What is the root cause?

I think protesting still has it's place but I also think that it is important to use what ever is available- especially as the dissemination of information has become so widespread. In "Wrenched", a recent documentary film that is mostly about Edward Abbey and the early radical environmental movement , a least a few times the idea of using words as activism is mentioned. I think it was Foreman who said that about half way through. At the end of the film, Terry Tempest Williams recalls the time she went with a protest group into a desert area where nukes had been tested many years previous. Before being allowed in, she is searched by the authorities. Stuffed in her sock is a small note pad and pen. The agent finds them and asks Williams, "What are these?" Williams looks the agent straight in the eye and replies, "Weapons". She is allowed to pass.
