...yup, definitely need more people carrying guns
Perhaps the NRA should lobby the government to subsidize gun ownership programs for low-income, high-crime neighborhoods to show they're serious about the self-defense argument.

What disproportionate enforcement looks like:
"Last year, 47.3 percent of those convicted for federal gun crimes were black — a racial disparity larger than any other class of federal crimes, including drug crimes. In a 2011 report on mandatory minimum sentencing for gun crimes, the U.S. Sentencing Commission found that blacks were far more likely to be charged and convicted of federal gun crimes that carry mandatory minimum sentences. They were also more likely to be hit with “enhancement” penalties that added to their sentences. In fact, the racial discrepancy for mandatory minimums was even higher than the aforementioned disparity for federal gun crimes in general."0 -

The only practical use for a handgun is to inflict harm or murder a human.
all concealable weapons should be banned.
they should make it automatic life sentence if you are caught with one.
that would stop all this bullshit.
there is my pipe dream for the day.

So all police officers should be in prison?? Not to be silly, but but you can leave a gun to it's own and it's a lazy SOB.. It won't kill anyone. However, enter un-educated ( in the proper use and handling of a gun) humans.. And video game,television/Hollywood influence and that is where murder occurs. I was raised around guns all my life, and my family, from Grandparents through to older cousins etc, all made it perfectly clear that it was not a toy, it was a very serious and powerful weapon. Along that same sentiment of your statement. No one should be allowed to drive vehicles, right? They can be used for murder too. ( stretch example, but just as ludicrous as saying the only purpose for a hand gun is murder). My .38 I keep as protection from the idiots out there that are out to maime and destroy human life cause they think having a gun is cool. I wish it didn't have to be this way. BUT it IS my constitutional right to bear arms, and you better believe I'll use it if I am TRULY threatened. In other words I'm not an idiot, pulling out my weapon every time some one hurts my feelings or makes me mad, ( then I just throw wrenches!lol). However, if you make a verbal threat that can be deadly on nature, and I honestly believe you to be intending me harm, or you make a physical attempt on harming me?? You better hope you can outrun a bullet, because I will shoot you! But only if you are threatening my LIFE in any way. Other than that? You have no worries, unless you're an Elk, a bear, a deer, a Turkey ( the gobble gobble kind, not the goofball kind), a Quail, or a Duck; then you're dinner.lolobugg said:The only practical use for a handgun is to inflict harm or murder a human.

I DO however agree that it should not be so easy for just ANYONE to get a hand gun. Let alone a rifle for that matter. I wish people that HAVE guns were more astute to their responsibility to the community around them, and to their families. ( I.e. Keeping guns dry locked- unloaded and locked away when not in use). But instead, we are where we are, which is why if what you propose came into law, I'd gladly serve my time. Not because I was guilty, but because I was raised to respect the law no matter how stupid it is..Post edited by whispering hands on0 -

you can do that with a rifle or shotgun.
I am not proposing banning all guns.
my point is that a concealable weapon has one purpose- to kill humans.
why would an animal care or even know the difference???
the problem with your logic is everyone has a different "standard" of proposed threat as we have seen in the recent high profile cases. you leave it up to the individual to determine if they are threatened and more times than not someone ends up dead. yeah, you can prosecute the person who killed them but it is too late for the dead person.
I am a little passionate about this subject because my hero was gunned down from behind by some coward with a handgun and hollow point bullets.
pretty sure that if the bastard was standing on the curb with a shotgun or rifle then it would have been a little more obvious his intent.Post edited by lolobugg onlivefootsteps.org/user/?usr=446

Ok well that makes more sense, knowing where your logic comes from. The point to the concealment is literally that humans are alike like sheep in that we're a rather stupid species when the panic factor is introduced. The concealment is not so that we can "sneak up and kill a mother fucker". It's concealed do that panic is not incited. It gives the person carrying a comfort knowing that we are able to defend ourselves if needed, but others around us are not frightened. Cause honestly, no one knows the person carrying or whether they are responsible with the firearmlolobugg said:

They carry. And as for proving that your life is threatened.. There are rules to that that must be proved with witnesses and police reports in court. At least that's how it works here, not sure about other C&C states. I am sorry to hear about your hero. ( by chance would you be referring to Dimebag?). Losing a anyone to senseless violence of ANY sort is a horrific reality to face. So, I feel for you, and see now where you came up with that logic. But to be honest, not every single person that carries a weapon intends to murder anyone. I have carried mine for three years, and thank GOD everyday that I have never had to use it on anyone. I am ok with hunting, because there is a purpose to it.. But I'm still not sure if I could actually kill a human being even if I had to. ( and in general I really don'tike people, so I guess I have more conscience than I thought). But to actually kill someone out of anger takes a certain lack of the ability to think. I'm actually pretty damned good at thinking in the spot like that, so I always pray that if I end up in that situation that I would handle it with wisdom. But I have been physically assaulted and sexually assaulted. I know what the consequence to being accosted whole unarmed is.. So I guess the truth is we both see the reality of this from complete opposite sides of the coin..0 -
I understand where your logic is. If I were a female, I would probably be scared shitless to leave my house knowing all the scumbags that are out there. You are a responsible gun owner but unfortunately due to the prevalence of guns on the streets, if you were to get serious about it you would have to ban ALL handguns. and then provide a punishment that would deter people from even thinking about carrying them. This is not a popular view and would take generations for people to actual accept this. America is gun crazy right now. We love our guns. This is why this will NEVER happen. NRA is prob the most powerful lobby in the country.whispering hands said:

btw: I was speaking of John Lennon. his murderer flew from Hawaii with a gun. and then down to Georgia to purchase hollow point bullets. the irony is that the city he was killed in has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. the fucker had to bring his murder weapons in from outside the state.livefootsteps.org/user/?usr=446

Wow. Yeah I knew that JL. Was murdered heinously, never knew the full details. And yes I know it's bad here, and that the truth is. It really probably would take a full on ban. But again it would take generations to get everyone around to that side. And even then, us God fearing Republicans won't be giving em' up very easily. However the sad thing is, that even God fearing Republicans have been the ones behind the trigger, which is just as bad as the thugs shooting it out over territories! So the scary point of it all is that it is a no win situation all round. I know the criminal side gets guns like some kids get candy, and even if you did restrict it in a full out ban of weapons, there's still police officers that misuse the power of having them
Too. So, until we figure this whole thing out.. I carry a .38 EVERYWHERE, except places where it is posted that I may not.0 -

OK fine, I get it, especially in my town. People get shot up here all the time. Blood flows into the streets. This is the Wild West after all. Why just yesterday 5 of those Red Hat Ladies were moved down in the flower shop, two guys were shot in the Farm to Table restaurant, a couple of kids were knocked off for fucking around with some woolen skeins in the yarn shop, 4 people hallucinated bullets into their heads and died at Cosmic Cafe and 8 people were murdered in that dangerous sounding place called Sweetie Pies. Hell yeah, arm yerselves, fuckers, it's brutal here. But I'll tell ya this- come in to our bookstore carrying and you're gonna have to deal with me- lean, mean and a dead aim with a copy of the Oxford Dictionary to the head."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

.38 specialwhispering hands said:Wow.
I carry a .38 EVERYWHERE, except places where it is posted that I may not.
I'm gonna be watching out for you)

But if John Lennon was carrying a gun, he would have been able to defend himself, and wouldn't have been assassinated!!!lolobugg said:
btw: I was speaking of John Lennon. his murderer flew from Hawaii with a gun. and then down to Georgia to purchase hollow point bullets. the irony is that the city he was killed in has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. the fucker had to bring his murder weapons in from outside the state.0 -

Ok but seriously, if you feel the need to carry (and what a sad reflection that is on our society that people feel that threatened) maybe best not to announce it. And maybe even better, consider pepper spray instead."It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0
